Feedback & Bug Reports for new Forums

The text... well, I could live with the font if it didn't press letters together so much

thanks for bringing that up, somehow the post font got corrupted during move to the final installation. should be fixed now

that's latest vbulletin, feel free to check their feedback forums for a quick overview how much vb5 sucks, while browing you'll figure this out yourself quickly, too.

I appreciate that, but older versions are supported for a reason. I don't recall us being asked if we wanted an upgrade, and I distinctly remember in the "this is what the new TPU will look like" thread, several people saying that they hated it and much preferred the forum we had at the time. Granted, this site belongs to you and you can do with it what you wish, but a simple "Hey guys, I'm thinking about upgrading the forum. Here's what the new one will look like, do you want it or not?" would have been appreciated. I've been on sites before where admins have upgraded the system with minimal consultation with the members, and the sites ended up losing a significant portion of their readership because they hated the new interface. I know it sounds silly to say "I don't like how this looks anymore, it makes me not want to be here", but because XenForo is so different from vBulletin I'm going to have to completely change the way I interact with this forum. It's like going from Windows 7 to Windows 8.

I don't mean to be so harsh, because I appreciate you taking the time to run and maintain this site for all of us. I'm just really averse to change.

I must admit that I like the word infraction more than warning. It sounds so much more punishing and authoritarian. :D

vBulletin 3.8 has been end of life for 1.5 years now. nothing happens anymore for vBulletin 4, they just haven't declared it EOL.

Do you think it's easy for me to get used to the new layout? Everything under the hood is completely different, especially from an addon developer perspective.

We couldn't have staid with vBulletin 3 for eternity, get used to it.

I love the new forums, It just needs some touches from the older style and it will be perfect! I think this change is the best for TPU.

Infractions are now warnings. So there is no "middle ground"? We used to have warnings sometimes. Has that changed or will it just vary on points? Ie. a warning will be a warning with zero points and a infraction will be a warning WITH points?

Understand? Its hard for me to explain in text lol.

W1zzard, any chance we'll get the WCG and Folding sig badges back at some point? (sorry if this has already been asked, I didn't see it)

With your experience, we figured you would not need a warning before your warning.

Thought I should just say - I like the new layout etc a lot. Thank you W1zz!

Personally haven't had any problems yet.

Hey I've been pretty good the past two years. 2011 was BAD. But 2012 and 2013 I've calm down a lot. I would go as far to say I've gotten one or two infractions I honestly didn't deserve since 2011..............the rest........I had commin. lol

Anyway I was just trying to clarify the rules that's all.

i think the mods are still figuring that out for themselves :)

definitely. at some point, it's just not the highest priority at the moment

Agreed. It was high-time for an update, this new layout just needs a bit of work, which you're already working on.
I, for one, appreciate that the owner and lead coder for this site is taking the time to interact with the community and change things to help better accommodate us all.
W1zz, don't sweat the small stuff. You're obviously working very hard on this.
Everybody else: like it or not, we're going to have to live with XenForo. The current theme/layout is obviously a work in progress, so just roll with the punches and before you know it, things will be sorted out and we'll have a better forum than before. Change is not always bad.

Great, thanks! :respect:

at this time i don't see any bugs. perhaps the CSS could be adjusted to make the text boxes in threads appear separate from the rest of the page? i can barely tell where the text box starts and the page ends...

Anyway I was just trying to clarify the rules that's all.

There was never any real difference, before other that the text sent to you (or whoever). A warning was a zero point infraction.
Now it looks like it's all just called "warnings".

I got ya. Its the just semantics that are messing me up. There is a more defined difference between "Infraction" and "Warning". Instead we have "Warning" and "Warning Lite".

So if we are issued a warning then we are issued points toward being semi banned or perma banned? Has the points system changed at all in regards to how many you have to acquire to be banned?

My overall impressions are very negative at the moment, but I am going to do everything I can to be constructive one step at a time.

  • The bar between the post and signatures is too hard to see. Can we make it a little thicker (maybe it's only me on my 30" 2560)? In fact, all of the border lines are a little on the thin side for my taste.
  • It used to be REALLY easy to scroll through a long thread (like a heavily-commented news article) and pick out the posts with lots of "Thanks" because it was visually different than posts and stood out. Now it is nearly impossible to do so, and I really got used to doing so when an entire thread of arguing and trolling was TL;DR. Can we try to visually make these stand out more? I feel like the "Thanks" function makes TPU unique over others, and it should stand out.
  • I know this has been mentioned as a bother already, but any plans on making the Edit and Delete buttons on posts icons on the right next to Thanks and Reply?
  • Multi-Quote coming back? (probably already mentioned)
  • The Back button isn't working consistently. It will sometimes just sit on the same damn page every time I hit back until I click and hold on the back button to show history, and manually select one of the previous pages.
I apologize if anything has already been mentioned already. I'm also trying to hit some less obvious stuff (which may go on the backburner for a while understandably).

Visually looking good. I'm sure complete functionality will be back in no time.

The thing I miss most at the moment is that on the old version you could still see the articles when you wanted to post a comment from the main page, and now that seems not be the case.

Also, a small request that I believe quite a few would support: can we have "speakers" or "sound system" added to our "System Specs" data?

Avatars on the profile widget are still screwed up.

Once we figure all this out, it should work the same as it always did.

They did have a beta testing thread about this; they did warn they had to leave vBulletin because of trouble with version 5 (and 4 can not be used forever); they did hence announce they would switch to XenForo as best alternative. They also did announce that the Xenforo defaults would contain things like "like" which would eventually be turned into "thanks", but for now only the like-button in posts says "thanks". The other forms in which likes appear stay on "like" and varieties until they have been converted into "thanks". First the real problems need to get fixed. Until then, just keep in mind that people thank, for posts they like (if that helps realising that here, likes and thanks are the same).
