Or go for 8600gts 512MB for less money and a faster card. Not that that price would be what they'll really sell it for and propably drop soon.

quick cpl questions.
when u guys say the 8600gt's are shit, what are you using as reference? is this just shit quality in general or when compared against the 8800? why would a 128 bit bus bottleneck 1GB of memory? and lastly, besides the 8800 and the 2x00 series what else uses a 256 bus?

Think they ment Gainward.. Had a gainward once that I had to solder new capasitors to make it work again (famous 6800le black screen issue), so I can't really disagree, even though I think they are ok.

256bit bus is found at least from x8x0 series, x1800, x19x0 series, 6800, 7800, 79x0 and more. People don't like when something new has something worse than the older. It's like next midrange cards would come out with 128MB of memory :)

Somone with more knowledge on busses&bandwiths can answer the last question :p

I know what they were thinking, putting me back to October having been out of the pc thing a few years g-cards have a lot more differences: pixel pipelines, processor speed, ram, the xxx-bit ringbus. Back a few years ago xxx-bits and ram is all anybody cared about.

So I ordered a crappy card and everybody here told me to send it back, and I did.

It is the lack of knowledge they are depending on. How many people will say 1gb of ram oh-my-goodness.

Exactly, these cards are aimed at the n00bs....the type of peeps that walk into a PC hardware store (ie PC World...the sworn enemy of any PC builder) and say "whats a good graphics card?". They are then sucked in by the techno bullshit that the spotty faced, Pentium 3 owning clerk tells them. He tells them that 1GB of RAM on a graphics card will make them 'uber l33t' and the envy of all gamers....they leave the store happy....but ripped off!

This is interesting... wonder if they'll do a 1GB 8800GTX. That would piss all over anything ATi currently has. I think a lot of people will purchase the 1GB 8600GT now. OC it a bit and you've get a pretty decent card I would have thought.

ATi is selling a HD2900XT with 1gb GDDR4 memory :)

LOL - that will teach me to listen to a salesman, then research what I bought afterwards. I just bought one of these, and was wondering why my 1Gb card didn't perform well... :banghead:
