i flashed my msi x1950 512mb with your 1.7 bios and it worked just fine. problem is the card is not stable at those clocks. anything over 600 for the gpu when running 3d gives me no display. strangely my old his 256mb single slot got me 641/769 w/ stock bios. anyway i'm assuming that my card will not work for increasing the voltage.

the bios did improve performance at those clocks, probably due to the memory timings. (i go by my max frames in atitool - from 670fps max to 722fps with the new bios).

i'll put my stock bios up as soon as i can, but i'm curious if you could make me a custom bios based off 1.7 that gives me 602/776, i'll pm you, ketxxx.

ps if anyone is having troubles with finding the filename for the modded bios, type dir into ms-dos and it will show you the files on disk. mine was x1950mod~1.rom or something like that.

I'll get around to it some point today, just finishing a 256mb version of the 1.7 bios.

Ok here is a bunch of BIOS files based off of 1.7. Only difference for the 256MB version is theres no voltage table. BIOS filenames are self explanatory. "custom" is the BIOS you wanted madmanmarz ;)

FYI I have absolutely NO way of testing 256MB versions, so if they work, they work, if not.. somebody needs to donate a 256MB card for me to test with.

So the 256 mb version is for the PROs with GT-based PCBs?

Dont know what PCB the BIOS has come from I've just used the latest BIOS that has been submitted or I've managed to find for the 256\512MB cards. I did ask a ways back for info such as that, but nobody could ever be bothered to tell me that *sigh*

Would you have the time to mod my BIOS if I send it to you? It's the newer Sapphire PRO without voltage tables.

EDIT: I read the vendor ID of your 256mb BIOS and with a quick google search I came up with Connect3D, but those cards have the adjustable vregs, so if my research is correct, it won't work with the newer PCBs.

The 512mb Connect3d bios has the voltage table but the 256MB version doesn't. Maybe because its 3 months older, a newer version of the Connect3D bios might have voltage tables.

It appears that the voltage tables are more often removed than added so it seems that the 512mb and 256mb are probably based off of different code.

Which sucks for me because I have 256MB version but I plan to try the 1.7 mod anyway to see if it helps my overclock even without a voltage increase.

If anyone else tries the bios's post your experiances.

I tried a Sapphire bios on my Connect3D card a while a go and it didnt go well. Had to blind flash so I guess it is a old / new PCB incompatibility thing.

I cant remember who, but somebody in the last 2-3 pages reported their ATI tool FPS increasing a lot, stock BIOS was 670FPS, my modded BIOS 722FPS. That increase should translate to a good 10FPS increase with AA enabled, maybe more. Somebody needs to do a good comparison.

if VRM cooling is a concern are these custom bioses that were posted advisable?.

Also does increasing the core speed increase the VRM temps ?. I dont want to increase the memory speed just yet.

Also what was the date of the stock bios 1.7 is based from, I have a connect3D 512 card but dont want to go backwards in terms of a BIOS but a new version would be welcome :)

Would be nice to see. Overclocking was never a primary concern for me, just performance whith AA enabled and stability. The fact I managed to do both my primary goals without apparently afecting OC potential is just a bonus.

is there anyway to change voltage on the Sapphire x1950GT with Atitool? i dont wanna have the voltage raised all the time (with my X1800GTO I used reduced 2D voltages and raised 3D OC voltages).
With 0.27 I dont have voltage changing option.

Probably quickest way would be to run 3dmark, use the prt scn button then save it as a .jpg and put the images on a floppy or usb pen stick something like that.

Wouldn't a PCI-E bios work with an AGP card? I have a pci-e chip on my card, or would the bios mess with the rialto chip? Mostly I think I need voltage. My temps are plenty cool, but I hit a brick wall @ 627 / 769.

No idea if it will apply to all cards, but for my xpertvision card at least, raising VGPU voltage not only allowed for a higher GPU clock but also allowed me to increase memory speeds a lot.

Ketxx can you confirm the following please

A) The 512MB Bios is OK for Connect3D cards
B) What the revision of the "base" bios was you modded from

I have a recentish card and wouldnt want to go backwards with the card. I saw your other post you seem to have EXACTLY the same opinion as me, stability has to be #1 priority, OC is a nice bonus but not the main aim.

1.7 should be fine for C3D cards, PCB revisions may lead to incompatibilities though.
BIOS rev. is 009.013.001.024, dated 2007/02/05.

sup all?

i just recieved a saphire x1950 pro pci-e (256mb gddr3) vcard and was wondering what i can do with it as far as a bios mod.

i started reading this thread but made it to about page 5 and figured it might be easier to just ask instead of trying to read all 50pages and getting confused.

do i need to run atitool first to see what the card can handle?
has anyone been able to flash their saphire x1950pro 256mb pci-e with any success and if so what did it enable and what performance gains did you get?

thanks

Looks like I have same card...
Max that I could get is 614 on GPU and 790 mem with some instability after 1.5+ hrs of intense gaming, then artifacting (sometimes).
The frequency values I got by running ATITool 27b1.
Could get freqs up to 621 GPU and 750 MEM, but less stable.

Right now I'm trying Ketxxx 1.7-256 BIOS: it was totally unstable as is, had to drop GPU from 624 to 614, then was able to up MEM from 709 to 790, but 3DM06 score dropped ~100 points. Will re-flash back my original modded BIOS and compare again (3DM06 score was 5750-ish).

Hi, I've tried skimming through the 57 pages but I dont seem to find any reference to a modded bios for an ASUS EAX1950 Pro 256mb PCI-X?

Also another question my ASUS card will not play any 3D Apps or games it will either give me a video signal loss or a bunch of memory artifacts and lock up which I end up needing to restart my PC. I've tried everything, and now i'm wondering if you may have a fix for this or is the video card garbage? Please let me know asap, thank you!!
