I am genuinely interested in this new feature. Does an admin decides which one is low quality and which one is not? What is the standard or rule for doing so?

I mean it is your site you decide what to do with it. I am just interested in knowing where this might lead the community of TPU towards.

This is news to me. Where can you see this?

How active is this kind of moderation going to get? Low quality posts seem to greatly outnumber quality posts. If those are the ones that got marked low quality, they must have been extremely low quality.

Ouch....thats not good .

This is manual action at the moment. i dont think a downvoting system based on users will work, because people will punish each other out of spite.

Your feedback is VERY welcome on this. I'm tired of this community becoming a toxic place. If this doesn't help we'll just start banning people.

I want this to be a place where people can ask for help and get useful answers and have civilized technical discussions. Moderation has been lax in the past (as per my instructions to the mods) and I've been very generous with letting banned people back in. I feel this has worked for many years, but it seems times are changing.

The last days I've wondered several times "wtf why am I doing this?". You can take your drama elsewhere

How so. It appears to me that w1zzard would rather us mark posts with no meaningful content as low quality rather than butthurting everyone with an all out deletion of content. AFAIK this is not a public vote system.

agreed, and understood

in my humble opinion, this isnt the way to go about it. i cant say i have a better way, but this feels "Wrong" . i commend the effort, just dont agree with the implementation is all. it feels wrong in some way that i cant put my finger on ..sorry i couldnt be more descriptive.

Please go nuts with the low quality flagging. Send them all back to TomsHardware. :)

MASSIVE THUMBS UP. Thank you. I hope TPU can be good again soon.

when you do, let me know, i'm always listening

surely will. i just hope someone else can come along, and iterate why it feels wrong better than i

I like it, I'm tired of seeing threads completely derailed by people that want to argue about things that have nothing to do with what the OP asked.

Though maybe I'm kind of a hard ass, and I'd rather just see these low quality posts deleted and the poster given a 1 point infraction. Post enough bullcrap useless stuff, and guess what, you get to take a posting vacation for a while.

I know what you mean about those annoying toxic posts. I had three of them on my case yesterday because they reckoned I was wrong about something, so I just stated ignoring their posts to me. I can pm you if you want to discuss it further.

Also agree that this should be staff/mods only as it will definitely get abused out of spite otherwise.

New system gets a thumbs up from me. :)

I feel like today's society as in life in general, has taken a toxic turn and I feel it is largely to blame on the internet. People with their alter egos online end up taking it to their real life, badgering and berating others and doing things that are wrong because they feel entitled to it or whatever.

I do blame the internet for this and the easy access to news stories from around the world giving what most people would never think of doing, bad ideas.

At any rate, I agree with the new system.

Here's an idea:

You directly insult someone - Infraction.
You call people or a group 'Fanboy/shill' etc - Infraction.
You swear far too much (or use the C bomb) - Infraction.
You get 3 infractions - you get banned... forever (because two infractions should be enough... I have two on my account from when I was little :p)

Just not this 'Low Quality Post' guff.

And no political avatars - Infraction

Censorship is nothing new here, it's happened in the past. Heck, GN was practically created just to get rid of the miscreants. That said, it's a private board and W1z gets to make the rules, plus it's nowhere near as bad as other forums. Don't like it, leave and make your own forum.

I already been infracted for most of those. It's not a new idea.

the existing infractions for namecalling/insults will not go away. This is just a slightly softer measure.

While it doesn't apply in the CTS threads, I hope in help threads the public shame factor because everyone can see your post got downrated can also help.

is there a set guidline for deeming these poor quality posts as such (meaning they must meet a predetermined set of requisites)? Moderators are simply users with more privileges and colored usernames, so Far from beyond reproach...it seems like accountability would be a good thing on both sides here, like if their username was posted next to the window deeming a poor post, so we know who deemed it as such
