How To: Enable SLI on pre-i7/i5 hardware

Maybe this is a silly question but I have a doubt.

I have this card but I'm tempted to SLI'ed with one of these:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003VKGZSM/?tag=tec06d-20
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00469WUAO/?tag=tec06d-20
All of them are 768mb version but clocks are differents: 675/900 (sparkle) - 700/954 (galaxy) - 750/900 (msi)

Can sli patch be used with different cards (model/brand/clocks)?
Or must be exactly the same model/brand?

The brands don't matter, it just has to be the same gpu. you can also mix the onboard ram. lets say you get a 768mb gtx460 and a 1024mb gtx460. It would just use 768mb on the 1024mb card.

Sorry, but you can't Sli those two cards.
They have different architectures, the GTX460 768Mb has lower bandwidth and fewer ROPs that the 1Gb model.

Just a further warning, turn down your overclocks on the video cards! You will not be stable at clocks that would work well on a single card. That being said, driver 266.58 seems very stable with slihack. Black Ops, Dead Rising2, Crysis, MafiaII, Fallout New Vegas all confirmed stable. Using XP64. Have tried several of these under Win7 x64 as well, and work very well. Sli GTX285s on a P5Q motherboard.
Edit: and no, you can't mix the two types of 460s. Not the same chipsets.....

Guys is it normal that my upper card is at around 9C higher temps than the lower one?? Other than that in my case i have no instability issues because of overclock, I left the same OC I had with single card maxed out in oc..however it's very probable that doesn't happen with everyone's rig.

With two cards right next to each other, I usually see about 9-10c higher temps for the upper card... With a slot or two between the cards they are usually closer in temps...

Sli'd GTX 460's with a 1090T oc to 4ghz on a 650w PSU.....possible?

I have a Corsair HX620W that holds 2 overclocked and overvolted to 1.087 volts palit sonic platinum gtx460's and a quad core Xeon X3380 at 4.1ghz. No problems if the psu is of quality

Anyone can play well at Metro 2033, with the SLI patch?

I have problems, and I can not play at the Metro 2033 with SLI enabled, because I strip the game, or I have the black screen.
But if I play with SLI disabled, nothing happens, and I can play without problems ...

dual GTX470's on the WHQL'd drivers, 1080P res, and it plays well.

2x 480s at 880MHz, SLI patched on the latest drivers - Metro running fine so far at 2560x1600

Thanks,

You have any idea why this happening to me? Two Gigabyte GTX460 1GB.

Did you remember to install windows with APIC 2.0 enabled in the BIOS? Have you tried removing the drivers, running driver sweeper, and then disabling the HDMI audio in Device Manager for both cards before reinstalling the drivers (with the audio component NOT selected).

SLI is flaky even on certified boards and there's lots of useful advice on the NVidia forums.

Well, no, I have not tried any of those things ...

If I enable the APIC 2.0, I have to reinstall windows?

First a test of HDMI audio issue. Then, uninstall the drivers, restart, step Drever Sweeper in safe mode, I enter windows, and install the drivers again, but this time without the HDMI drivers, right?

In the BIOS, I found nothing to enable or disable the ACPI 2.0, the only thing I found is this.

ACPI Suspend mode:

S3 (STR)

S3 (POS)

Only you can select one or the other.

It's only Metro that gives you black screen? What is your OS? Do you have multi monitors?

Hi, yes, I just passed in the Metro2033.

Windows7 X64, and one monitor (1920x1080)

I tried everything you told me, I reinstalled the drivers without the HD audio, and I changed the ACPI option, but nothing ..

Correct, Make sure you set it to delete the NVIDIA folder as well or windows will find the and just automatically reinstall them for you!

As for the BIOS, you need to do some swatting up then as to whether or not yours is compliant with ver. 2.0 and if so how to make sure it's enabled. It does need to be set at install time or Windows won't use it.

BTW just did a quick google - useful tool that ;)

Metro is known to cause BSODs for some SLI users so the Metro forums as well as NV might be a good start.

If you know, I've searched a lot, but only find people, which gives the BSOD, just the start of the game, or are left with the black screen, but what happens to me is that I can play quietly, until I boot to the desktop or the screen stays black, and there are times when you restart the PC alone.
Never has given me a BSOD, just happened to me that comment.

Try deleting the user.cfg file in the root directory of the game and running it in sli again.

Thanks, I just try, and what happened to me this time is that the screen was paralyzed after 5 minutes of play ...

I deleted them. cnf, which is in the folder of the game and the one in the folder AppData / Local etc. ..
