How to NOT build a new PC

so perhaps the most sane route for The Verge would be to release another 'How-to', but this time do it properly.
They must have read my post.

I gotta seriously get in on this internet bucks and plaster my pretty face online and do tutorial videos on stuff I was doing since I was 13.

Maybe if I did a "how to build a cheap gaming PC" while wearing my rice pickers and going shirtless so you guys can see my keg and hairy chest, would you guys watch it?

I watched the video and have to say it was ridiculous. You guys spotted things I didn't but the whole thing was stupid to begin with. There are hundreds of these videos as is anyway.

Oh dam looks like video is pulled down. Dit not see it. So cant say if its right or wrong.

But this is how you build a computer...well at least if you are a maniac.

There's other copies of the videos on youtube, apparently the so called "journalist" featuring in the video thinks too highly of himself ~ because the PC obviously works & many of us don't have $2000 to play with

I have a name for guys like that, but everyone knows what they are.

My computer costs more. And after a 10 year hiatus of using laptops and Macs, I still remembered how to build a PC better. :p

Like I said, his best option would have been to joke and parody himself. Everyone would have let it slide after that.

The fact that this made it out to their channel shows how much of a joke their channel is. At no point did anyone reviewing the video before posting catch the mistakes. They are obviously a channel about pumping out quantity of content, not quality.

I agree completely. But at the same time, it appears they owned up to it and pulled the video stating factual errors did not meet their standards. That's good. But not sure us continuing to attack The Verge is good. Let's see if they have learned their lesson and, moving forward, see if future videos contain obvious "factual errors" that should have been caught.

As a side note, I stand by the previous criticism of the reviewer. First, someone claiming technical expertise should have known better, and/or done his homework and research to learn proper proceedures first. And second, as a journalist he should have verified the facts before publishing too.

HOWEVER, there is no excuse for ANY racial slurs. Period.

I agree, but I don't think it sums up the bulk of criticism. They should ignore that, but take the technical criticism to heart. Youtube comments are hardly representative of most people.. even harsh critics. It's a whole new level of "shithead".

But he pulled out the race card in hopes that would garner some sympathy. Well, it doesn't. I am sure that some comments did have some racist components to it but I can't believe for one second that all of the comments had that in them. My comments didn't have any reference to racism other than the fact that he claimed racism which is completely wrong on his behalf.

They pulled it. And admitted there were technical errors. I don't understand what more to expect.

No. Come on! You have no clue who pulled out the card first. Neither do I. But there's no reason to assume it was NOT some critic of the video who made the comment first, and not The Verge. I see nothing in the editor's comments to suggest he was seeking sympathy for The Verge.

The editor did NOT defend the errors. He is defending the host. And this the right thing, not wrong thing to do.

but I can't believe for one second that all of the comments had that in them.
Come on! Now you are just being silly. NO ONE said "all" of the comment did. That's just ridiculous to make such exaggerated and outlandish accusations. :(
My comments didn't have any reference to racism other than the fact that he claimed racism which is completely wrong on his behalf.
No it's not! All (the site editor) did was point out there was a wave of attacks, "including hundreds of racists attacks on the host". It is NOT wrong to point out that is one reason they pulled the video. You're now blaming the person victimised.

****
It seems some people just want to criticize. :kookoo:

does it matter who pulled it first? I hate people try to shove it in my face as if it is some kind of argument.

I don't care what color someone is. I only care how stupid they are.

I agree. That's why it never should have been pulled in the first place. It had absolutely nothing to do with the topic.

Felt compelled to comment, I am black (not that it should have any bearing or relevance as an enthusiast) and its a load of horseshit. Pulling the race card to excuse incompetence, totally what all civil rights activists fought for, right? He should've prepared beforehand

I built my first Northwood-based PC at 15, and its mostly common sense accumulated since then. The only two mistakes I invariably make:
1 - applying just a tad more than appropriate thermal paste
2 - switching sata ports and forgetting to switch BIOS assignments / Grub UUIDs (that blissful first bootup coming to an abrupt halt)

I have just seen one of them and OMG :kookoo:. He´s a moron to build a pc. Not just one mistake but like 5 or 6 in the same video. F****g amateur to say it in a nicer way. He´s noob for sure.

I agree 100%. He should have and I said that way above in post #59 when others said they were feeling sorry for the guy. But now I have to ask you, who are you accusing of pulling the race card? I don't see where it was the host. And where was it used to "excuse" incompetence?

The way I see the evidence presented here is the race card was pulled as just one of the reasons to pull the video. I don't see anyone from The Verge or the host making any excuses for the errors made in the video.

Did you check the journalist's twitter handle or the other gem, from the same team?

:( How about reading through the thread before posting! Then, instead of joining the thread days later with the same information, wasting your time and ours, you might see that, yes, I saw it. In fact, I already posted a link to his tweet in post #59 above.

Let's be clear. NO WHERE have I made excuses for the presenter of that video. He made errors. In fact, read post #59 again. Note where others have felt sorry for him, I blasted him! I also blasted The Verge, agreeing with Splinterdog that the producers were also culpable. He was not making excuses, he was explaining no reshoot was allowed - that again is the producers fault.

And - I did NOT use race against him.
or the other gem, from the same team?
What does that have to do with the price of rice in China in the summertime? :kookoo:Regardless, that does not mean it is time for a witch hunt for everyone else that works on the "same team", whatever that is supposed to mean. There are idiots on this forum. Does that mean you are an idiot too? If guilty by association is the criteria, then... .

Let's stick to the topic, okay?
Are you perfect? I'm sure not. But I hope I can learn from my mistakes. The presenter messed up. He acknowledges it. The Verge messed up too, so they pulled the video. It does no good to keep criticizing them. All we can do now is hope they have learned from their mistakes.

I saw the video and the only thing was the way he pasted the paste that's All

It may seem like a minor point. But the fact is, ensuring a proper application of TIM is a critical step in assembling a computer. IMO, if they were going to rush past that point, they should have used a CPU that came with an OEM cooler and OEM TIM pad.

There are more mistakes. Like put psu fan inside to the wall where it cant get air, then there are memory in the wrong slots and that cable management hurts to. There are a few miner ones to, but the worst is the paste part. Not only put he it wrong on the cpu, but he also mix two different paste together. That is not professional at all. He would not get to build my next pc.

They pulled it. And admitted there were technical errors. I don't understand what more to expect.

And that is really the only correct course of action they could have taken after the fact.

However, that doesn't instantly erase the other issues that this error brought to light. It shows that either their process for putting up videos has no checks for content that they just trust whatever the creator makes OR the people they have checking the videos before they go live are incompetent.

Furthermore, when they recognized the mistake they chose not to remove the video at first but instead disabled comments so people pointing out the errors in the video can't be heard. This is a real problem for me, because there are some serious errors in the video that can cause the destruction of someone's very expensive hardware if they followed this video. This, to me, is the inexcusable mistake that can not be forgiven.

You don't have a problem with the long screws into the rad?

You don't have a problem with the long screws into the rad?

Yeah, that is the thing that really got me. Some rads, like his luckily, are designed so if you do that all you do is bend the crap out of some fins. But some you'll puncture one of the rad tubes, and the minute you power on the system, fluid starts pouring out. And with the rad mounted at the top of the case, that fluid is going all over the components.

Did you see the other post, linking his twitch comments? And the Verge is at least tacitly defending that guy with those tweets, unless you're someone who can't read between the lines?

I'm sticking to the topic, race was not a part of it & I've not commented on it!
