How to use a Nvidia card as Physx w/ATi

you think there would be much of a gain between these 2 setups ..

5870 - 460 physx
5870 - 480 physx

what ya think?

way to overkill but have fun

240 enuf for physX only loads gpu 80% while playing batman

I bet the 460 would be nice for Mafia II benchmark runs but the 470/480 as a Phsyx card is all for e-pen/overkill.

the difference from GTX460 to GTX480 is small and almost unnoticeable. use the GTX460, consumes less, cool etc.

well i know .. but I just have all 3 sitting here ... was just curious if it is even worth testing the 480 as physx

try em, im lil curious as well.

Does that mean it is working? If so I will begin the tests ...

ok very nice ... that was easy enough to install all that :)

I will be back in a few hours with some tests results :)

also any specific games people wanna see?

I am guessing mafia II but what else ... will this work with crysis?

seriously dude that's some oc on the GTX460 card or maybe u should update ur GPU-Z to version 0.4.5

neh I like the feeling of being pro

I will update it, but just wanted to get a quick SS of it first.

.... does anyone know if the crysis benchmark with run physx? or for that matter ... any games ...

quick question ... ran mafia benchmark ... GPU2 only went up to 14% ... is that normal?

my gts250 maxes out at 78% when running fluidmark. in metro 2033 it hovers around 45%, and blacklight tango down at about 30%.
in short, it depends on how stressful the program itself is.
long version: keep in mind that gpu physx has certain limitations. for example, a max of 64k particles can be rendered from a single emitter, the number of particles on screen is limited to 256k, and each program uses a different physx build. the last is present on cpu physx as well, but cpu physx does not have particle count limitations.

ok that simplifies it ....

I was just basing it on these SS
i7 920 @ 4.0GHz, uncore @ 3.6GHz
6GB DDR3 @ 1600 7-7-7-20-59 1T
295 GTX (GT200 240sp x2) @ 650/1400/1200
8800GTS 512MB (G92 128sp) @ 670/1674/972
300GB Velociraptor for game & fraps, OS on 80GB Intel X25M

random i love you

both cards dont have to be hooked up to the monitor .. correct?

Just curious cause I cant find he physx option in nvidia control panel ... or do I need even need that if afterburner is showing GPU usage for both cards?

the hack allows you to run physx without a monitor attached to the nv card. i believe it uses a type of spoof code within the driver, making it think there's one there even though there isn't.
hope that helps.

The instructions on the first page are not very clear, do i need to remove the ATI card?

Do I need a monitor cable in the nvidia card?

Someone help me out please : ]

wanna run a 8600 with a 5770 XD

8600GTs are like the bare minimum for physx, while they work i dont know how good they will work. No you do not have to hook a cable to the 8600GT.

These are the instructions

FIRST. Install the ATI card into the machine, Then install the newest drivers (10.3 at the moment). Then shut the PC down.

SECOND. Install the Nvidia card in the second PCIex slot, then boot into safe mode. Install the 196.21 drivers. After the drivers are installed DO NOT RESTART.

THIRD. Run the newest physx mod exe file you extracted. when the program loads press CAKE and it will patch the files in your OS. once its done restart the PC.

To check to see if it is working, run fluidmark and it should say hardware physx. if it doesn't, go to nvidia control panel and disable physx then re enable physx and test again.

Thanks, wasn't sure as other instructions I've seen are much fiddlier.

Will let you know how 8600 performs : ]

awesome guide Brandon :D

thank you

Yw don. i haven't updated it in a while since i do not have a physx card anymore but hopefully others will pop in with updates on newer files.

thats okay, i think just by reading it people can do a little research themself, and if not......well then they dont want physX so bad:D

its a great guide and i found it very easy to understand in #0

and it works perfectly,

but i dont have a combo to try it out with yet, just got the 470, so dont really need the extra physx atm lol
