Yes, the numbers actually do work, but it is ugly as hell.
i can guess.
ME interface isnt suited well for mixing with old school rpg interface options.
check game settings for option to show/hide those numberes. they could've been smart enough to include it as well (looking at their job so far, i am not very optimistic thou).

I will check. I didn't think to check settings. I bet they were smart enough to have it off by default on game release, but didn't do quality control after the patch.

Yeah that's quite an improvement indeed, less robotic. Addison's body hitches weirdly a couple times though.

Not that I normally play with female avatars when given the choice, but I doubt I'll ever like Sara Ryder's look. She's a disgrace to Jayde Rossi.

The story is pretty derivative and unoriginal. It's like they're doing some weird flipped mirror image of the first trilogy. Kett = galaxy wide threat, only they are biological where the Reapers were synthetic AI beings. And this galaxy even has its own precursor race called the Remnant, with a very Prothean feel.
I haven't dug too much into the lore, but it seems that the writing crew used some hand-wavy reasons to justify the sudden advance in technology and engineering that allowed the Milkyway species to travel across darkspace to a new galaxy. The new game is set in Andromeda basically because they shit the bed so bad and couldn't see a way forward in the original setting.
Also agree that they had the perfect opportunity to let people play as another species, but it seems that the current writing staff don't even have the chops to write decent human characters much less aliens.

I'm having a very hard time finishing this game...
I like how the game was open in the first 3 but they did a much better job of guiding you through the plot whereas in this game everything is jumbled... The map way points are utterly useless when 30 more pop up after you set one and until you're close you have no idea if you're heading in the right direction....
The Animations are good and the interactions are better but game play sucks...

I wish I'd of gotten it on PC instead of console because this game is not designed to work with a controller....
I can't tell you how many times in close combat I have found myself staring at the ground running in circles after aiming down sights because I'm also near cover or finding myself in the opposite direction after using Melee....

I have tried my best to like this game but it is utter shit....
It simply has way too many shortcomings.

See, this is funny how opposite people can perceive things. I think the plot is very clear and haven't had any trouble with what I should do next. It feels very much like a Mass Effect game.

Well, I finally finished. It took 157 hours and I did everything there was. I thoroughly enjoyed the story, the gameplay and the exploration. Combat was pretty good too.

I didn't like occasionally getting stuck in an object in combat so I couldn't move anywhere. This happened 3 times, and resulted in me having to load an auto save, hoping that it wasn't too far back in the battle. Of course the numbers showed up as part of the responses post patch. On the other hand, the patch stopped my team mates from falling from the sky whenever we got out of the vehicle.

These were minor issues though. It's still a really good game! There are even realistically an hour and a half of minor things you actually have show up as quests, post-credits. So they not only let you roam free after the credits, they provide a little bit of story structure which fleshed things out.

You try to come off as overly positive, but there is one key word missing from your mini-review here and that IS a key experience for me when it comes to a ME game:

'memorable'

I could literally attribute everything you've put forward to DA:Inquisition, but it still wasn't a memorable game, with memorable characters, the game was soulless. ME:A strikes me as just as generic. How do you feel about this?

Hmmmm, interesting point. I wasn't trying to come off as positive, it is how I feel about it. It was fun. But you ask a good question.

The answer to that is Ryder's crew has Just a few of its crew that are memorable. Drack the Krogan, definitely not soulless. His interactions with Ryder and with other characters on his own are great! Peabea and Jaal were interesting characters. Beyond that, you're right. There were outside minor characters that were more interesting.

So I have to say it is the sum of its parts that is fun, and why it is much better than DA:I, but with just as many uninteresting characters as that game, which I disliked.

Somehow, despite individual points, they pulled it off overall, and it might even be by accident, LOL. The game overall didn't come across as soulless. IndeedI never felt as if it was not a genuine Mass Effect game. It left me at the end with the same yearning for the story continuation, just like the previous games did at the end. As a whole, I do find it memorable.

Flaws are okay as every game has them and some flaws even make some games stronger in some way, but when a concept and game design conflicts with itself like it did in DA:I that is just overall bad game design, that game wants to tell you a dense story but gives you light weight, generic content while failing royally on everything that makes RPG progression interesting (actual choices). From what you've told me, ME:A seems to escape that pitfall.

overall it's a good game IMO. Thank god for the latest patch though. Now I no longer need to cringe or laugh while talking to the NPCs.

I finally bought this game via E-bay (65% cheaper than the retails here), but....utterly disappointed.
I heard and read about bad reviews, but while most of them were focusing on the graphical issues, there are almost none regarding the game play, story and atmosphere....which SUCKS! Sucks big time!
For a long time now I haven't played such a boring and dull game. Seriously. Got so bored after a couple of hours, I will never be able to finish this game.... oh dear.

Gameplay, story and atmosphere don't get busted on in reviews because those are pretty strong points for the game for most people, though it's not for everyone's enjoyment.

@WhiteNoise is correct, it builds. The game is so long it doesn't slap you in the face right away. I remember TW3 starting out slow and a bit boring too, but they also knew they had a long gameplay time to suck you in, which they did very effectively.

I also personally like the game a lot but if you find it boring there is nothing wrong with that, maybe it simply isn't for you. We all have games that ppl love and we just don't care for. Like my buddy keeps nagging me to finish the lastest doom and I simply can't get myself to play more than 20mins. The Witcher 3 I consider to be one of the best rpgs I played but my other friend can't get himself to play for more than 20mins. It is what is. It's a shame you wasted your money at least you dint pay full price for it lol.

The story and writing are not that great, even by Bioware standards. The reason nobody is talking about how unsatisfying they are is because they've moved on to other games. My expectations lowered considerably when Mac Walters was involved as the game director, and he delivered an underwhelming experience as many predicted.
