mobo/case connection

Good job on the System Specs.

What model number is your CPU (2400, 2500...?)

now it has moved on the installing windows. it is attempting to copy windows files. after 2 minutes it is still at "0%" in copying windows files. ahhh and here it is again.. the previous and identical error.

which of the 2 disks should i be putting in for win7. 32 or 64 bit?

well, for starters i have been using the 32. so moving forward. i turned off the system, and instead of the intel asking for a bootable disk i am getting "missing operation system"

so, restarted the the comp w/ the 64 bit. and now i have the following message. "press any key to boot from cd or dvd....... missing operating system"

I would use 64-bit.

Did you format the disk?

Press the spacebar while that message is on the screen.

so i click on any key and nothing happens. the same message still remains

pressed spacebar and nothing happens

well, now it beeps really loudly when i press the spacebar

so now what do i do?

k,, here i go.

"windows is loading files"

well, I was working toward my A+ cert. til this happened. by the end of the course i was told i would be able to build my own comp. and i was looking forward to it, but nobody told my comp. at that time that it had to wait till the course was OVER before it crashed.

@ the beggining of the "windows install" screen

"set up is starting"

deleting 2 partitions. partition 1 = 100mb partition 2= 457 gb

deleting 2nd partition

dude after it deleted the second partition it went straight to "copying windows files" got the error,, restarting the process and when i get to the larger partition i will format it. is this what you are wanting.

format the large partition?

Restart the PC and press it as soon as the message appears.

When you create the new partition, try formatting it.

Yes. The 100 MB is a reserved Windows partition. Format the other one. Try a quick format first, because the full format will take a few hours to complete.

I have been searching the error you gave.

I find references ranging from bad cables to bad hard drives, or bad Windows DVDs

failed to format the selected partition. got a previous error message and now my monitor has gone black

my comp. is still running and monitor is still operating.

Do you have another PC that you can install the hard drive into in order to do a format?

should i have deleted the large partition first and then format it. i did not do that because in previous attempts i would delete the small partition and then delete the large one.
since i did not delete the smaller partition should i have deleted the larger partition and it would not have taken me automatically installing windows?

my old comp. is not sata. it was built for me in 2002. take the hard drive back and get another one?

OK, have you made it to the System Recovery Options?

been following your problems, my favorite thing to check is the cable connections on the hard drive, both power and data. a little wiggle might seat it back into place and get. check the motherboard data cable, too.

(if the cmd prompt format doesnt work out)

Type LIST DISK

press Enter

(There are going to be several steps, so let me know when you do them, OK?)

"not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."

Thanks and hope you get the computer running and get that A+ certification.

Have a nice day.:)

Type LIST DISK

this might be a long shot, but what about sata channels? if he switches channels, it might free up resources? also, power connections to the hdd and optical. if its not too much hassle, make it so the same power cord isn't powering the hdd and optical at the same time. these are shot in the dark ideas. ( i know it is probably drawing power from the same spot, but the cable it self may be damaged as to not allow enough power for both devices)

as far as sata channels, make it so the hdd cable going into the motherboard is in a connector as far away as possible from the blu ray drive.

gives me the disk # which is "0", size 465gb free; 100mb

Type SELECT DISK 0

Press Enter

"disk 0 is nothe the selected disk"

Type CLEAN

Press Enter

"dispart succeeded in cleaning the disk
