Mouse changing pointer by itself??? [Solved!!]

Edit: Happy to inform that, as of the installation of drivers 16.12.2, this issue never happened again.

I've been having this problem as of late, even since i changed into this monitor. I haven't been able to reproduce it on demand but it has happened 4 times already: the pointer changes from an arrow to a vertical checkered-flag like rectangle which makes selecting small things rather difficult.

Tried taking screenies of it but, even though i check the "include mouse pointer", the pic still doesn't include the mouse pointer

Note that i increased the DPI to medium(125%): dunno if it has something to do with it or not.

Dunno it it's also related but i'm having a sort of poor experience with this mouse while @ 4K because the arrow's movement is not fluid (small jumps????), which makes selecting small things difficult as well.

Whenever this happens, i can only fix it by restarting. Tried changing pointer schemes as well as logging off and on but those don't work

Has anyone experienced this sort of thing?

I haven't experienced this "error" with DPI @ 100% because i increased the DPI almost right away when i 1st placed the resolution @ 4K.

EDIT

Experimenting something else: instead of increasing DPI, i reduced the resolution to 3200 / 1800, so that i can have DPI @ 100. Will report if this "error" happens again.

Anyone know of a way to take a screenie that INCLUDES the mouse pointer? I'm using fastStone capture for my screenies but, even with the option to include the pointer checked, it doesn't include it

i had this as an AMD driver bug for a very long time. the only fix i had was to move the mouse to the bottom right corner of the screen over the 'peek at desktop' button in windows 8/10 - for some reason that would fix it.

Really? Will try that next time it happens. It beats having to restart the PC xD

For now, i've reduced the resolution to 3200 / 1800 so that i can have DPI @ 100% and see if that has any effect.

I'm using Windows 7 x64, btw.

You may have to use a camera to take a picture, but not sure that is necessary.

Is this the computer in your system specs?

Have you scanned for malware?

Does it change for every program, or just certain ones?

Is "Allow themes to change mouse pointers" unchecked?

It is the PC in my system specs, except the monitor and video card, since i haven't updated that yet. My monitor is this one.

I had it scanned just 3 days ago (malwarebytes full scan). I think this has happened since before then, though.

The "allow themes" is unchecked.

As i've said, i've been unable to reproduce it so i can't really say for certain. Has happened 4 times, thus far.

Intermittent problems that cannot be reproduced at will are the most difficult to fix. We can eliminate the monitor. They would not cause this. And a checkered pattern could be seen as pixelization. I might trying updating your graphics driver.

Indeed: it's difficult to pinpoint the source, hence the difficulty.

That's my current driver: i believe it's the 2nd latest one, with the latest one being 16.9.2. Should i upgrade anyway?

About the checkered pattern, it's difficult to select, for example, check boxes because unlike a standard arrow that "points" to where you want to click, this one does not and is more to the right side then to the left. When i try to select a small check box / close button, i click to it's side instead. Can be VERY annoying ...

So far, it hasn't.

Still hasn't happen again: it appears the problem was related to the DPI being over 100%.

That said, i still have this:

Any idea what setting to change to fix this, IF it's fixable by changing setting(s)?

While the tracking surface is not supposed to matter, sometimes it does - especially if the surface is not a solid color, or is not perfectly smooth. You might try a different surface to see if it happens there. I would also reset the mouse settings to the defaults to make sure you know where are starting from.

@ a higher resolution, it seemed to be checkered like but @ this resolution it looks more like successive arrowheads pointing down. Notice how far away from the tab closing button the icon is, even though it's highlighted (meaning if it were the regular arrow, it's point would be over the tab closing button).

I remember something. I use 2 screens and would move the mouse cursor over and back a few times between screens would correct it.

Can't do that because i only have one screen ... bummer ... that would be an easy fix

The dude from this post also experiences mouse pointer corruption and he has the same card as me. However, his card seems to have other issues that, so far, i don't have.
