NVIDIA is seems to be recycling a broader range of existing GPUs with new branding that merely some mainstream GPUs such as the G92. According to a set of advertisements by a channel vendor, of Acer and Packard Bell PCs, they feature the GeForce G 100, GeForce GT 120 and GeForce GT 130. These graphics cards feature 512 MB, 1 GB and 1.5 GB of memory respectively and fill the entry-level graphics cards lineup.

From the information TechConnect Magazine gathered about these, they are rebranded variants of GeForce 9400, GeForce 9500 GT and GeForce 9600 GSO (aka GeForce 8800 GS). This new naming scheme will be operationalised by the end of this month, towards February, around the same time when another portion of graphics cards based on the G92 GPU get rebranded to the GeForce GTS series.

:( - That's my sad face nVidia!

Just great... now we don't know what card we are buying :(

Yes, its very unfortunate that NVIDIA is doing this..

Yesss , a new generation of graphic cards from Nvidia , and to make the confusion wich is wich they upped the memory giving 1.5 gb to a 8800GS :) , even i if i don't cosult the internet i don't know wich is wich.
This is turning into scaming the customers campaign , advertising CUDA wich does nothing adn will be absolete when dx11 arrives , advertising physx wich is absent in 90% of games and the most important ones never have it , putting huge amounst of memory to very weak GPU's and the biggest thing , renaming the same product even 3 times now (8800gt - 9800 gt - gt ... i don't know or 8800gs - 9600gs - gt ... i don't know or care ).
The only thing good that comes from Nvidia now are the very stable and good drivers and give some cool effects , i was really imppresed how well Nvidia products work in GTA 4 and how procesor consuming the ati products are.
I always said that Nvidia tweaked the drivers so well that proccesor resources are more left alone than ATI wich is killing processor resources needing more power , it's not normal for a 4850 to need very fast CPU to be fully utilized while 9800GTX is happy even with a low end overcloked CPU.

So... my 9600GT is no longer a 9600GT?

lol wut..?

Seriously, GT 130 with 1.5GB RAM? Yes, Joe Average would bite that...

well, what you all expect, they been doing this for a good while now:laugh:

ChipGate scandel

nvidia is a bunch of cowboys nowadays and I'm getting sick of their underhand tactics. Their ChipGate scandal affecting mobile and desktop GPU's really stinks. Charlie Demerjian on the Inquirer has the full dirt on this if you want to read about it:

http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/162/1050162/nvidia-recomends-not-buying-its-defective-chips

All of Charlie's nvidia articles are here:

nvidia's top guy needs to go. Now. And without a golden handshake.

How about putting out some genuinely better products at all price points like ATI are now doing, instead of conning people with a f* rebrand??

:mad::mad::mad:

I'm so confused. It'll take some getting used to in order to understand this new naming scheme.

so there are now 3 remakes of the 8800GS/8800GT

Don't blame Nvidia for the memory sizes guys. I bet my house that reference boards will not sport those memory buffers.

It works this way:

- Partners will always make low end cards with tons of memory to catch average joe off guard.
- PC makers will always use them with the same purpose.
- Media Markt will always sell those PC, instead of better ones.
- What is more, Media Markt will always remark memory ammount on their marketing sheets as if that was the most important thing.

Just look at the size of the font for the memory and HDD and the one for the processor...

now we got a reason to sin

DONT UDPATE DRIVERS OR TPU GPU-Z SO U WILL HAVE UR NAME

i remember a friend of mine thought the more mem on a card = better performance

he thought the old 7950gt 512mb was better than a 8800gts 320mb ,so you can imagine how many people will get caught out thinking wow 1.5gb of memory ,it must be good.
when ppl buy these poor cards and realise they are pretty useless for things like gaming ,i wonder how many will buy nvidia again?

Poor nvidia poor..

Nvidia has lost there mind...

Nvidia has lost there mind...

+1

playing the field a bit is ok & is to be expected at some point - but doing it in such a broard scale is totally unacceptable.

I also agree with the the PhysX point - even the most important games dont use PhysX. Unless its UT3 or something most games still run on the Havok physics engine. which is a shame as the idea of still being able to make use of a older Nvidia card for PhysX was very very appealing. too bad you cant SLi with a weaker/differnt card. Id like to be able to pick up an 9800GT or something to SLi with my 8800GTS.

yea you cant SLI with a weaker card, but you can use a 8600GT and up card for physx.

Yeah, I doubt that is even close to true. Since when has the 9600GSO had 1.5GB of RAM? Come on, if you are going to make up a hoax, at least make it believable.

ok, but are any of these cards really needed?? no, they offer such a little gain in performance its not even worth any of it, especially when there is a new generation of cards just around the corner.

dosnt surprise me one bit, nvidia has done this in the past if you look back.

gf4mx=gf2gts with more ram OR higher clock or in some cases both
gf4mx4000 is a gf2gts with both more ram and higher clocks

the gf4 and gf4mx aren't even close tho, the gf4 chip could do alot of things the gf2 was totally incapable of.......yet morons bought it because it says gf4 so it must be betterer :P

and newtekie1, please stop the flaming of staff and flamebaiting/trolling, seems like 90% of the posts i see from you are designed to get a negitive reaction from people.........

nVidia said quite some time back that they planed to rename the g92's yet again, and adding more ram is just a way to trick stupid people into getting the newer card, though i have some clients/friends who use low end cards with 1gb of ram on them in their cam/cad and image manipulation machiens because the video ram is acctualy usefull there.

LOL , what about FX

So .... 8800GS/9600GSO/GTX130 can be SLI'd together then with just a quick (hopefully) painless bios flash?? Am I right?

duno, jr, i wouldnt put it past nvidia to do something to preventthe gtx130 from being able to sli with older cards, after all u should really buy 2 gtx130's even if u already have a 9600gso, its newer(name) it must be better somehow :P

NVIDIA get your head out of your ass.

It is confusing enough as it is with all the name changes. What ever happened to the days of me just knowing my 8800 Ultra was king from the easy to remember naming scheme?
