tried overclocking this card with an r420 chip, stock is 475/450...it seemed i got artifacts right away.i was using the find max core/memory feature. Also it has ddr3mem. I'm new to ocing vid cards. Is there something i need to do first before an overclock attempt?...please help!!...The rediculously low frame rates in FEAR are driving me crazy :banghead: . All my other games run sweet. The card is water cooled so heat doesn't seem to be an issue.please see A Window to Alien Gutz in the case mod gallery for system specs.my proc is overclocked to a 3.73

visiontech overclock

thanks for the tip. I gave it a try and was able to get 553.50/454.50 from the default of 475.00/450.00 , i'm getting 110.76 fpps in CSS and a hi of 84fps,low11fps and an average 27fps in F.E.A.R. I guess thats about as good as it gets without a complete vid card upgrade, speaking of which, what would be the best card upgrade for AGP?.....thnx again

The best upgrade for AGP would be X800PRO VIVO (flashed to X800XT or XT PE) or X850PRO VIVO (flashed to X850PRO 16pipes, XT or XT PE - but no guarantee for pipe unlocking especially Connect3D). Or X850XT but deppending of the price.
This is my oppinion. I have had X800XT (flashed to XT PE) and replaced with X850PRO VIVO flashed to X850XT PE (from MSI with dual slot - XT cooler).

if his current x800 pro has vivo on it, then he can just flash that :)

but if he already has the x800, he can flash that up into an x800 xt pe (providing it has vivo), so there isnt really much point in buying a whole new x850 and wasting money.

if he can flash it to an x800xt pe, the 520/560 should be enough :p:D

The X850's are certainly cheap enough now. My old X850PRO 12 pipe ran F.E.A.R and Oblivion with ease.

if u wanna save some $, get the pro with vivo and flash it to xt.

if you dont mind spending the extra or simply dont wanna risk the flash, go straight for the xt

As I told you be carefull with C3D because almost 90% is the chance to remain with 12 pipes. For ATI you have 90% chance to unlock and for Sapphire I have no idea. But from the other hand this C3D has dual slot cooler which is XT cooler and probably the card will unlock.

how come the C3D cards cant unlock as well?

As long as they have vivo, the laser cut shouldnt have been placed on the pipes, so i dont see why they dont unlock...unless they do unlock but have corrupt pipes...
