where in the world did you find a functional DFI lanparty? I find that a feat in and of itself.

That said I agree with the ps/2 adapter try.

I know I instantly started drooling over that DFI LanParty and would do just about anything to keep from retiring the board due to a mouse issue if it is even the board. I believe the OS is responsible for requesting the usb (non charging)port to up the mA from a 100 to up to 500mA along with the help of a FCIP ( I think thats the correct acronym )chip.

The DFI came from @basco

he was sad to see it sitting on a shelf unused and i am more than happy to give it an extended life.

i tried the ps/2 adapter with a known working mouse and that didnt work. I plugged in a wifi dongle for a keyboard and it recognized that ok.

Wifi mouse might be the way to go.

My parents taught me not to play with matches.

They were wrong.

As for why USB -> PS/2 didn't work, it's because they are passive converters. The mouse has to actually "speak" PS/2 inside to work with one of those. Most are bilingual (PS/2 and USB). Some aren't, though.

My keyboard is bilingual too and has full Nkey rollover on PS/2 but not usb. It's how I learned all this crazy stuff, lol.

Even if the sockets are outputting a good 5.0v on the Vcc, signal voltage could be high for some reason which would also fry stuff, you'd need a SillyScope to check that though. But like others have said it's bizarre that it's only killing mice! Alucasa might be right on the cursed part :laugh:

I hope the DFI Lanparty survives a lot longer, cool boards! :rockout:

I never attended college either, I was a Pointy head on F-16 Avionic Systems from 2005-2010 in the United States Air Force, which required CDCs and OJT, I made it to the Craftsman/Senior Level as an NCO before having to be a SNCO to become a Master Level. Served 2004-2012. @cdawall knows who I am. I understand the physics of flight etc, so don't assume anything you keyboard warrior (which is all you are good for).
