physx card not working

hes using the physx PPU not GPU physx thus the difference in windows also if u have to keep futzing with drivers to get physx on the gpu running right then whats the point. everyone hates messing with gpu drivers

i ran the vantage tests with the ageia ORIGNAL drivers from a long time ago with updated drivers through to the latest from nvidia so far it seem to me that vantage does NOT use the Aegia PPu at all my score stayed within 200 pts in the cpu test

well after testing Cryostasis i am under the impression that the ageia PhysX 100 PPU has no impact on performance with ati gpus such a pity

I had the same issue, only drivers that work for are the PhysX_8.09.04 drivers. I tried all others. Im running the pcie x1 version. I tried the PhysX_8.09.04 then update to newest and as soon as I update I loose hardware physx and only get software physx. uninstall everything then install only PhysX_8.09.04 driver. Use fluidmark to test. it will show what mode its running in. Also another give away is when you install the newer drivers the demos in physx control panel disappear.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx_8.09.04_whql.html

vantage works with these drivers, so does fluidmark and mirrors edge. also tested grid too.

If you find out a way to get the newest drivers to work let me know. also you may need to copy the nvcuda.dll to the main folder of wat ever game or program you are running.

theres a lin kto the cuda.dll here

So those work with the Ageia then? I'll try them but I don't have any PhysX stuff

the point of my post was that in most games and in general apps physx with the 1st gen Ageia PhysX ppu theres no performance increase using Fluid Mark the 4870X2 and my Phenom II 940 at stock clocks can handly PhysX better then then the Ageia PhysX PPU geforce physX is a different story but as far as gaming the ageia PhysX is dead just have to wait for havok on Ati

yeah well atleast they work with my agiea. even if you dont have any physx games, it gives you like a 500 point boost in vantage and you test out the demos and fluidmark and what not.

huh then your lucky cause i ran vantage multiple times no increase cpu score stayed the within a 10point margin of error thats with OLD OLD OLD ageia 7.0 series driver and the new 8. nvidia driver with the 9s installed over them all those drivers SUPPOSEDLY work with the first gen Ageia 128mb PPU (mine is not a bfg mine is a factory model with the stupid half fallinf off aegia sticker on the fan XD. so the 2nd gen PPU or BFG version will most likely work fine but the 1st ever PPU released by Ageia which i had dosent add any benefit to cryostasis, mirrors edge, vantage, 3dmark06, fluidmark, etc and even when it did work it was so weak in its performance that its not worth it. i can and no joke simply set fluidmark to use 2 cores on my 940 and still run crysis maxed and even then the 940 using 2 cores still punishes the physx card at what its ment to do then again my ageia physx card as i stated is the 1st gen card before BFG or anyone else was marketing them and is the PCI version not PCIe which probably explains no noticable performance increase.

hopefully havok will work like the geforce physx in that i can just grab another 4870 1gig and use it for havok physics and in games that dont use havok physics acceleration from the cards i can just use tri fire instead

you shouldnt install the 9.0 over the 8.0 drivers. the only drivers that work for me are the 8.09.04. Uninstall all drivers, then install the 8.09.04 only. nothing else. you also have to make sure the nvcuda.dll is in the same folder as the programs that use physx.

yea i ran throught those hoops it didnt work so i took the physx card out put it in my old dual core tower 8800GTS 640 etc machine i sold for $200 and it ran physx on the ageia card just fine with the 7s 8s and 9 ageia and nvidia drivers i dont know my guess is physx and ati just dont want to play together haha

well one thing i noticed is mirrors edge installs a non working physx driver for ageia. once you install mirrors edge you have to uninstall the your physic driver then reinstall the 8.09.04. when its cpu physx it runs like crap with the proper drivers and the ageia, smooth as butter.

huh maybe the card i have is just junk after all it never was used for the 3 years i had it just sat in the machine twiddling its thumbs. eitherway i say goodbye to the ageia PPU untill gpu physics is used on both gpus i have no use for it as all it does is give 1 company or the other an slight advantage in a useless pissing match i would have loved the performance increase with the ageia coupled with my 8800gts it was great worth every penny i paid for ppu considering how old it was and just how big the improvement was but eh with the 4870X2 no increase therefor not worth the hassel. Then again id like to point the finger at Microsoft for not allowing more then 1 driver as id have just used the 8800gts 640 to do physx instead bah technology is nice and i love building machines but this bs i have this tech but not that tech is lame. I love having choice but standards really need to be made and held to for the benefit of consumers like me i build a rig every 1 1/2 to 2 years im praying my current system lasts that long

Blame Nvidia for buying them out and killing off their cards. They are very good at doing that, just look at 3dFX............

yea still its bullshit we know it and so does every single PC user with half a brain. Im not a fanboy ive run intel and ive run amd ive used 3dfx, matrox, Nvidia, Ati so far ive fried 6 intel chips 0 amd chips ive had defective 3dfx and nvidia chips yet ive frisbe thrown a matrox card and it works ati eh there a mixed bag cards tend to be fine drivers tend to be a pain as far as Aegia goes there hardware was solid it performed rather well when it performed and in most cases where it was utilized but as far as im concered Nvidia is on my shit list ati im watching closely and Amd so far as my full support as a company that pushes for freeware and yea i do blame nvidia for there buying and ruining Ageia but i also blame Microsoft as if they werent so keen on dictating what we can and cant do with are computers id respect them more. It used to be an OS was the stage not the whole damn show for which the computer was made. so many good technologies like Ageia get snapped up utlilized by one company and tend to die a premature death. So many good technological innovation down the drain.

an yea nvidia loves to kill new tech hey look they have sli lets take that then not use it for 4 years then hey we invented SLI WOOOHOOO or the way it is now Ageia comes out with PhysX no one takes them seriously nvidia buys them for chump change then a year after that BAM Nvidia incorporated PhysX into gpus. bah like i said so many companies with so many good innovations like Aegia get swallowed killed off and are forgotten its a shame

I totally agree with the blaming microsoft. I would have much rather of bought a 8800gts or something to run my physx on but since i use a 4850x2, ageia was only choice. But now we have windows 7 around the corner. I still hear mixed things about that. Some people say ati+nvidia physx work, some say its only a certain build of windows 7 and then some say its every build. Im temped to give the RC a shot and maybe buy a 8800 to use for physx and see how that goes. But I paid good money for vista a year ago and now its already being replaced. Another thing to blame microsoft for. They could have just made vista better with a SE release or something. Now if I do want to go windows 7 I will have to fork over the cash for it too. To me thats not worth the price of physx.

you just summed up my point exactly shroom :) "But I paid good money for vista a year ago and now its already being replaced. Another thing to blame microsoft for. They could have just made vista better with a SE release or something. Now if I do want to go windows 7 I will have to fork over the cash for it too. To me thats not worth the price of physx." i have been running xp for 6 years and in my opinion the best os microsleaze has produced is Windows 2000 xp was great once it matured but windows is going to a new every 4 years a new os route and its bs they over charge us and were beta testers to boot o where helping streamline the process so its easier bullshit. There slowly strangling are freedoms to use software and use are PCs as we see fit windows signed drivers? those = bullshit to farm money at $500 a pop per lic if macs could run games and my 3d apps like Maya mudbox and zbrush as well as windows id jump ship im awaiting the day Linux becomes 100% stable and able to run games at full speed when that day comes Windows is doomed

played it didnt work as in other posts i tried Vantage 3dmark 06 mirrors edge, Cryostasis, Warmonger etc none worked with physx with my ati 4870X2 and the ageia card on each install of drivers so i started with last available Aegia drivers and nothing tried the 8. drivers from nvidia and nothing and i tired the 9. drivers still nothing BUT when popped into my old machine with an Nvidia 8800GTS 640 i could run physx on the aegia card without issue on all said drivers on all said benchmarks and games without issue. besides it dosent matter anymore the old dualcore box with gts640 and aegia card is now long gone sold the whole machine for $200

I would've paid you more than 200 for it lol

well its gone now it was a good little rig

Athlon X2 4600+ at 2.7ghz
MSI K9N Platinum SLI 570mcp
2gigs corsair XMS2 PC 5400
PNY 8800GTS 640 (thing overclocked like a damn dream)
Ageia PhysX card 128mb PCI
BFG 650watt SLI PSU
full tower custom painted and hacked case for airflow
4 80cfm 80mm fans
Big Typhoon cpu cooler (first edition)
250gb westerdigital sata hdd

let the whole thing go for $200 i had it on craigslist among other places looking for $400 obro shipped but no one would bite so i basically pawned it off

good little work horse i miss the machine already but eh economic times called for extreme methods.

i wonder if linux would allow for Physx on the aegia card to work with a 4870X2 installed hmmm since the person i sold to is a friend and a semi competent coder i might have him dig around and see haha
