When you get an infraction you can see what it was given for, who gave it, when it was given, and sometimes the exact post it was given for. Under the "Expires" column you can see the status of the infraction. A expiration date can be given, or it can show if the infraction has expired, or been reversed.

If you have an infraction it can be viewed in UserCP.

So I have come to the conclusion that a 5 point infraction really is just a warning that you are outta line but perhaps not insulted any one in particular, it does not restrict privilages but could be the stepping stone to some more serious A*s kicking if you dont sort yourself out....that sound about right?
