It's safe to buy a FE edition. I'm sure Nvidia said it would not be more expensive and the EK Titan XP water block fits it.
nah... i meant HOW nvidia did overprice the previous FE and said the MSRP would be 100$ cheaper and serve as a base doe the AIB while the AIB used nvidia idiocy and took the FE price as MSRP
FE are nothing special and DEFINITELY NOT WORTH A OVERPRICE... it's only a plain bland uninteresting reference model (the water cooling and blower exhaust argument are minimal, at best.)
i.e.: if they say the FE price would be 699$ and the MSRP 599$ ... do you think AIB would follow that and price their custom card (who are in many aspect superior and more advantageous over a reference model... ) : nope.
do you remember the time a reference card was regarded as sh!t and everybody would wait the custom model from the AIB? .... i do...
now ... nvidia add Founder Edition and a lot of people think they are hand picked better binned exceptional card ... while they are totally not.
And all past reviews say the FE cooling is "just enough". When benching it, throttling accurs.

obviously since it's a reference card ... they are the base of the base on term of optimisation ... even the lowest custom model from a AIB is better than a ref.
2 doubts: if your going to put a block on it, why buy a complex expensive FE and not those cheaper exhausting models (all black plastic cover)? Are the FE good for overclocking a bit (with water block
FE, again, is just a fancy name selected by Nvidia to make people think the card they sell themselves are special ... and complex nope ... FE are the most basic card among all, expensive ... yes that part you got it right ...
for instance luckily in the beginning when i got my 1070 Armor it was a little cheaper than a FE furthermore it use the PCB of the Gaming X which is by far better than a FE, if i want to go watercooling : there is enough custom block, from EKWB/XSPC and some other ... i don't see the issue in that situation, plus the cooler is good enough to not warrant a watercooling (granted it's a 1070 ... i know) 25° idle fan stopped and 62° is the max i saw under load and gaming, the fan start above 60°
obviously if i took a FE i would have to put her under water to de-cripple her from the reference cooler ... (meaning adding even more $$$ to the initial cost

)
