Preorders for nVIDIA GTX 1080TI

You guys remember when this thread was about 1080 Ti pre-orders?

I member....

I wasn't the one that steered it of course.....

However, I was going to order a 1080ti but as always, I'll wait for reviews. I need to see what it does overclocked and how far it can be pushed. Nvidia's strength has been the clock speeds and headroom. It would be an absolute techy dream if they actually let board partners allow higher power limits, even if the voltages aren't too open (as we know now that on this nm mode, Voltage is a hazard to stability).

Hopefully if the cards are available next week, reviews wont be long...

Or when buying from Amazon or Bestbutt
you made my day/evening...

INDEED an Amazone has the best butt ... errrrr... NVM

anyone seen them on amazon yet?

well I am still looking I don't even see price drops yet.

I am really waiting for reviews if its just as same as a 1080 oc I get a 1080 and a rift. the 1080 I am looking at is
Boost: 1936 MHz / base: 1784 MHz in OC mode, boost: 1898 MHz / base: 1759 MHz in gaming mode

The info on Nvidia's site is vain to say the least.
I thought they'd have a better spec sheet than what's on offer.

well the only thing to do is wait for the reviews and hope its good.

I see many 1080's on eBay now. I would still prefer more Cuda though.
Missed two Titan Z's the other day. The guy accepted the reserve price instead of letting the auction run it's course. It still had 5 days left :(
They went for the price of two 980 Ti's...

I preordered this morning off Nvidia website at 11 AM EST total came out to about $747 with tax

my guess was $750 so I was close.

747?

damnnnn i did never see a GTX 1080 (non Ti obviously) below that price ... what the hell is that situation where a 1080Ti cost less than a 1080 ... (ok ... i'm ranting again, on how overpriced are hardware in my area :p )

Holy cow! I just entered my local nvidia site and preorder is open!

What to do? Get Founders edition or something like Strix or EVGA monsters? I love the compact size of the FE but without reviews about overclocking, temps, noise... The FE is supposed to be better than ever but...

Yeah I'm kinda feeling the same way. I feel like the founder's will be better than the previous founder's, but I bet the AIB partners can do more for it.

If your case is set up for external exhaust, or you want to put a waterblock on it, get a founder's. If not, wait for an AIB card.

EHHHH????? the FE since their introduction are just supposed to be plain references with reference cooler and a fancy name to make their buyer feel special ...

there was rumor of better binning etc etc etc... but they are prolly rumor ... no way a reference edition no matter how fancy they name it to milk cash will ever be better than a good custom model. (people deduced that because of the premium Nvidia asked for nothing... oh wait there was something ... the reference cooler with a fancy look and material ... well that was a quite expensive one ... tho not really worth the cost for the crippling it added rather than quality and performances added)

Yeah I'm kinda feeling the same way. I feel like the founder's will be better than the previous founder's,
the previous founder was a ... oh ... just read above ... the new one ... well it will be EXACTLY the same : a REFERENCE CARD... with 0 advantage over custom except for waterblock and eventually full height/length mITX build indeed.

If your case is set up for external exhaust, or you want to put a waterblock on it, get a founder's. If not, wait for an AIB card.
or you just take a custom that will hold quite well under air and wait on EK/XSPC/insert other block manufacturer to do a custom or put a compatibility list ... PLUS the 1080Ti custom will probably have same layout as the 1070/1080 and thus compatibility with custom block ... indeed references card are easier to fit

but gimped to the bone, using top grade material to compensate that? errrhm ... how you compensate a 8+2/10+1 VRM (already using top grade component ...) by 4+2 "top grade" VRM? (talking about the 1070/1080 there ... i know the 1808Ti will be 7) and 8+6pin over 8+8pin ... is not what i call an advantage.

nvidia just need to stop lying to their customer about the FE and all will be good :D easy to do ... calling them Reference Edition would be less presumptuous than Founder Edition ... and also ... put them at a adequate pricing ... and not ask for 100$ more while thinking AIB will price their custom cheaper, because they CLEARLY f*cked up big time last attempt ... NO custom 1070/1080 were cheaper than a FE as announced ... instead they were almost 150 to 200$ more (even a bit more for the 1080 ... and yep price are still between 750 to 890$ for a 1080 atm for me )

oh and PS: if your case is set up for "internal exhaust" you are pretty much in trouble ... so ... logically a case is always set up for "external exhaust" (not the GPU tho ... except for hamster wheel blower )
it's rather "for people with small case or reduced airflow" that a hamster wheel blower is useful

It's safe to buy a FE edition. I'm sure Nvidia said it would not be more expensive and the EK Titan XP water block fits it.

2 doubts: if your going to put a block on it, why buy a complex expensive FE and not those cheaper exhausting models (all black plastic cover)? Are the FE good for overclocking a bit (with water block), having "hand selected" chips?

And all past reviews say the FE cooling is "just enough". When benching it, throttling accurs. Question is: when heavy 4K gaming will there also be down-throttling?... Mmm definitively I am going to wait.

nah... i meant HOW nvidia did overprice the previous FE and said the MSRP would be 100$ cheaper and serve as a base doe the AIB while the AIB used nvidia idiocy and took the FE price as MSRP

FE are nothing special and DEFINITELY NOT WORTH A OVERPRICE... it's only a plain bland uninteresting reference model (the water cooling and blower exhaust argument are minimal, at best.)
i.e.: if they say the FE price would be 699$ and the MSRP 599$ ... do you think AIB would follow that and price their custom card (who are in many aspect superior and more advantageous over a reference model... ) : nope.

do you remember the time a reference card was regarded as sh!t and everybody would wait the custom model from the AIB? .... i do...
now ... nvidia add Founder Edition and a lot of people think they are hand picked better binned exceptional card ... while they are totally not.

obviously since it's a reference card ... they are the base of the base on term of optimisation ... even the lowest custom model from a AIB is better than a ref.

FE, again, is just a fancy name selected by Nvidia to make people think the card they sell themselves are special ... and complex nope ... FE are the most basic card among all, expensive ... yes that part you got it right ...

for instance luckily in the beginning when i got my 1070 Armor it was a little cheaper than a FE furthermore it use the PCB of the Gaming X which is by far better than a FE, if i want to go watercooling : there is enough custom block, from EKWB/XSPC and some other ... i don't see the issue in that situation, plus the cooler is good enough to not warrant a watercooling (granted it's a 1070 ... i know) 25° idle fan stopped and 62° is the max i saw under load and gaming, the fan start above 60°

obviously if i took a FE i would have to put her under water to de-cripple her from the reference cooler ... (meaning adding even more $$$ to the initial cost :p )

FE is vaporchamber, filigrane construction, heavy duty fan and carcas... all of which is not needed if you go water and have to pay it.... Only justification for a FE would be cherry picked cores... Well we're talking in circles, let's hope @w1zard is already dissectioning it and on monday 8 a.m. we will have the "latest news"!

which is not ... it's highly unlikely that nvidia would cherry pick GPU for the FE ... otherwise what would be a... for example... EVGA K!NKP!N or even Classified (forced to use my less liked brand for an example ... but that's the only one i know that claim they use "superior" unit for their top dog top price card )

in the case of the 1070 and 1080 there was also a rumor like that : debunked, FE never OC'ed higher than custom model nor had a edge over a custom model, if the 1080Ti will be like that ... for sure my next GPU dawn will be red
(furthermore what's the point of having a better binned chip if it has a weaker PCB layout and fewer component over a custom model)

for sure i do not regret my MSI GTX 1070 Armor OC 8gb .... over a "any brand" GTX 1070 Founder Edition 8gb (fooler edition ... is the right calling) even if it did cost a little more than 500$ (well Swiss taxes and price ... you know the drill ... i am always like that i complain about pricing in my country but ... i am an addict ... oh well computer hardware are good for my physical shape ... ahahah usually it's the opposite but in my case, well ... i eat less when i upgrade, my PC get beefier but i do not   )
