Super Desktop, Inferior Game Running :(

hmm... in that case... can someone here suggest a good back up program that takes a copy of my C drive and restore it later in case I need to re-install? Thanks. I'm currently thinking of transfering my original back up external hard drive's info into this 500GB one and then reformat the 300GB external to be used as my desktop's new hard drive with multi-partitions instead. When that's done, I can just restore whatever that I backed up from my 500GB one into the 300GB one. Does this make sense?

Please provide me with the program name and the website which can help me perform the backup + restoration. Either that, or walk me through it

i juse use vista ultimate's backup if i ever need to do that, sorry i dont know any XP apps.

oh I'm currently using Vista on both computer and laptop, if I backed up a Vista system, can the system only be recovered on a Vista OS installed computer?

? you lost me.

vistas backup feature only works on the same PC (you cant copy a laptops backup and restore it to another laptop, for example) but all you need is a copy of the vista DVD, and you boot off that.

well I don't really... have a Vista disc with me... the OS was pre-installed. That's basically the reason I wanted to make a back up disc of my desktop which has the Vista in case that something happened in the future and I have to reformat everything. I'm hoping that instead of re-installing Vista, I can just restore using my back up instead

I'm thinking of using the back up program because what I basically want to change is the role of my 300GB and 500GB hddr. If I can make a back up of my 500GB which has the Vista OS and restore that to my 300GB, then I should still be able to run my desktop with the 300GB hddr as if it's the 500GB one? (200GB less space of course).

You probably don't want to use your external 300gb as your OS hard drive. The hard drive thats in that system is probably double the speed so you would be affecting the overall performance of the system that way.

Well you have a new legit copy of XP, so you could use that If you wanted to reformat everything in the case of an emergency. You have all the drivers in the discs I sent with the computer so don't worry. You could just put all your important files on your removable hard drive.
