Technical Issues - TPU Main Site & Forum (2021)

Obviously companies are interested (and paying well) for the large exposure.

I do agree with some of you that it shouldn't be extremely distracting (like the nicehash ad was), so we went with darker colors this time, and I feel we can regulate this somehow in the future, possibly turning it into a win-win-win situation. Maybe limit the area size of "bright" colors?
Yeah that's probably the best you can achieve - ask em to limit the size of the area thats bright

I'm with them on this. Anyone complaining about that ad might need to reconsider their priorities. Yes, it's bright. No big deal.
My problem here is even in light mode where the contrast change isn't so bad, its almost as much orange as TPU has white
This isnt as bad as the nicehash ad - but when i stretched it wider to demo what it'd look like on an ultrawide, it was pretty painful

Lex, what size, aspect ratio/monitor do you use? I get the feeling monitor type plays a lot in how these look to people

Um. Just don't maximize the browser window? The content doesn't change size - it's fixed.

Personally, the yellow colour looks sickly and nauseating and I suspect is done on purpose to make it attract attention. One doesn't normally see ads that look like that anywhere, normally having pleasant colours regardless of ad type and I reckon other people must find it like this to, so I suggest not allowing this colour again. Please get rid of it, it's awful.

Yeah i browse a lot more than just TPU
Can't wait until multi-window is a thing and you can have more than one window open at a time.

I swear, you people are probably the ones who piss and moan about free food.

Ah, you run your browser window maximized. I generally don't as shown by my screenshot earlier. TPU site formatting is at play here it would seem. You're at 1440p from the looks of it.

Hey now, be nice. Given the screenshot above I can now understand why that big orange ad was a thing. Granted, it still wouldn't bother me, but it's now easy to understand why it could be a bother to others.

I run multi monitor, multi window and multi browser
I can often have 20-30 tabs open researching for help threads here on the forum

And then one is giant bright orange if i switch to the TPU home page instead of the forum page

Not sure why, but just laughed when I read that sentence.. It painted a very funny mental image.. You're just humming along, doing your thing... click, click, click, click(bright orange boarder ads).... WAAAAAA:fear:..(que Monty Python yelling "Run Away!!")

I'm at 3840x2160 on the daily driver. (Samsung U28R55) It didn't seem to look worse than at 1080p overall. I still have the smaller AOC that can do 144 Hz.

To put it in perspective that matters:
If people see a page that annoys them due to bright orange ads, they avoid going to the page
Ads shouldn't drive away traffic

There are people who don't mind or work around it, but we went through this previously with nicehash and it bothered a lot of people

Amen to that. Trust me, I'm pushing for changes, but we need to find consistent rules, that are a reasonable middle ground

On the homepage. Forums seem to be fine. Individual pages seem to be fine, too.

Actually, everything's fine again, but that error persisted for at least like 30 seconds.
Just in case.

Can you wrap ads in a border?
An orange ad looks better in a purple border.
Red complements black etc...

Yeah I failed at coding. Realized that the order of reviews in the news stream was reversed and added a bush fix :)

Weird. TPU loading real slow on mobile for me. Other sites loading fast. Home WiFi running normal.

Possibly. Everything else okay on it though.

NVCleanstall uses this machine as storage for the driver files. New NVIDIA release today, so it gets hit hard until Cloudflare fills their cache in all their pops

"All systems, full power!"

Seems to come and go, a couple refreshes on GPU-Z's download page shows the US#6 switching between low and high load.

Easy to spot when NVIDIA released new drivers :) The machine is 10G btw, just realized that "100%" in the server list is at 500M, like on our GigE servers. Raised to 2000M now

You need to use a scottish server for that, just for the star trek memes

Fascinating insight to how much power and bandwidth goes behind a simple client application like that

Power is actually insignificant considering how many people use NVCleanstall. us6 is an aging 6-core xeon (E5-1650 v3), so not much in terms of hardware considering what's available today, and even those 6 cores are overkill
Very happy to have that 10G pipe at reasonable pricing though :)
