OFFICIAL Tom Clancy's The Division (Discussion)

If you play with people. It's supposed to have a large SP element too, which is where my preference is.

It can be played solo, yes, but I'm waiting to see feedback on how well that's implemented, and just how fleshed out it is, and how many hours of gameplay it involves. While it sounds much better than Battlefront, having a campaign at least, it tends to sound like it's chopped up into small bits the way they describe it.

is it me or are the graphics not nearly as good as they were made to look last year?

I can't figure out what kind of game is it going to be. According to Wikipedia, it's an online only 3rd person shooter and RPG. That doesn't really help much.
you shoot stuff , and you can upgrade some perks with the points you get from shooting the stuff

I agree. I watched some recent gameplay and was like....wuh? That doesn't look like the vids I saw just last year at all.

The Division beta just popped in Steam - downloading it right now!
Just a few days ago it was only available for pre-orders, but I guess UBI will run an open beta 'till Feb. 21st.

If I run everything on max (not even ultra , more than ultra) I get 45-50fps at 1440p.

Funny thing is - I recall the graphics hype from a year or so back and how awesome the snowdrop engine was. Guess what? Nothing fucking close. It's pretty nasty for dev's to just bullshit their abilities and then release a standard (albeit acceptable) graphical level of fidelity. It's like Alien - Colonial Marines part 2.

If they downscale gfx because of consoles, I hope the next gen consoles use the absolute top end parts from AMD or Nvidia. No matter how 'metal' the API's get, the sheer grunt of a dedicated gfx card can provide so much more. Hell, I would say SW Battlefront far outshines this game in graphics. Even BF4 looks fantastic 2-3 years on.

Found this - very good - watch from 4:55

It doesn't matter, and still won't help us with PC's, because consoles will still be stuck in that exact monent in time as far as development.

Honestly, I've been expecting the PC version of The Division to be graphically sabotaged for platform parity ever since the article where an anonymous Ubi Massive dev said he suspected it would be when he leaked the truth about their lies regarding Watch Dogs having the E3 features yanked at launch for "performance" reasons, vs platform parity.

And if that wasn't convincing enough for some, the player made mods that re-enabled them with no worse performance made it obvious.

You really can't trust Ubi to tell the truth or do the right thing regarding the PC platform.

Graphics seem pretty good in the beta. It will take a hefty machine to run it maxed out.

Played it briefly last night just to get a feel for it and I quite liked it. Prefer it to the assault mode Rainbow Six Siege.

The framerates were quite low though in the order of 40-90fps and generally stuck to around 60-75fps. I've currently got a 2700K CPU and 780 Ti SLI setup, so this is disappointingly low, even with things like ambient occlusion off and shadow detail set to low. Dropping the resolution to 1024x768 proved that most of the lowish framerate is due to the game being CPU bound, so I guess that this 5 year old CPU is really starting to show its age. Dunno how much Intel's latest and incrementally greatest will improve on it, though. Overclocking the CPU should help noticeably then.

Perhaps they've "normalized" the graphics quality across all the gaming platforms to make consoles seem better? It's one dirty little trick if true.

Probably not at 1080p though right?

I take some initial thoughts back. Maxed detail and sharpness it does look better than average. Reflections are better than other games as they do world reflections well. Still nowhere near as glossy and crisp as was shown two years ago. Too much rendered hype.

I spent ~3 hours playing today and it is quite good.
My GTX750Ti is only capable of running @1080p Low, but it is still playable on Medium settings (35-40FPS). Graphics is quite good, but I had experienced some texture popping (either due to streaming problem from my HDD, or due to lack of GPU resources).
Gameplay is fun. It reminds me of Mass Effect for some reason, but feels much better and smoother. Controls are designed for gamepad, but work just as good on kb+mouse.
I am really considering buying this game, or to be more specific, buying a new GPU bundled with The Division.

I think I lost my interest in this one.

Yes, at any resolution. As I explained in my post, even at 1024x768 the framerate wasn't especially high.

I would say between 60-75 FPS is very good at 1080p...

Not when you're trying to hit a steady 144 vsync locked. You should see games running like this and with strobing turned on. I can look jawdropping.

This is a new AAA title so I'm not surprised that it hammers the system, especially an older one like mine. Perhaps in this context the framerate I'm seeing is good for the load put on it, but as an enthusiast who knows what he's looking at I want moar! :p I'm gonna overclock the CPU to 4.5GHz later temporarily and let you know how much it improves the framerate.

Just re-tested @1080p Low outdoors and I get approximately the same FPS as on Medium: ~35-40, 45 max. Still playable by my "non-gamer" standards, but I do believe that your GTX780Ti should be able to do much better than my aging GTX750Ti...

Another note:
Just got to a Dead Zone (a PvP location, or something like that), and I quit after my first big combat encounter. Shot away a party of 3 enemies by spending all grenades and 2 medkits just to be killed by two "friendlies" with turkish accent for MY blood-earned f$%^ing loot!
It took me a minute to figure out what was actually required of me, but I guess you need to find some packages or containers and rush them to helicopter extraction points, while shooting enemy dudes, highlighted in red. For the first 4 minutes in this location i heard a phrase "gettafuckawayfromdat" at least 8 times, though it fell out of dudes that I killed (including getting XP and Z-something ranks). Very frustrating... even more than playing TF2 on community maps.

It does do much better and it's in SLI too. I've been saying that the game is CPU limited, hence even at low resolution the framerate doesn't improve much.

they could have had something epic with a gta esque open world game.. but it just fell so far short of what was originally promised

this is what's wrong with a lot people on this forum. they seem to think anything below 100 fps is terrible performance...
