Hello, erocker!

I have an unusual task. Have an old all-in-one PC Lenovo C205 with AMD E-350 APU HD6310 (Wrestler) inside. I put an SSD in it, 8 Gb of RAM @1066 singe channel and new OS Win7. Bring it back to life for my mom's duties. Clean it up. It runs pretty much normal, as far as i disable windows aero and put a 100% CPU clock speed all the time. But in some browser (Opera) visual appications, such as Youtube or with a lots of animations it lagging a bit more. So I tried everything I can to force clocks from idle 280 mhz to always to be a p0 492 mhz, but nothing works. No overcklocking is alowed from software. But I don't think to overclock it. The driver update is done a pretty well job tho. 15.7.1, 16.2.1 is pretty much do a differece in performance. But nor afterburner, nor ati bios flash-tweak (can't get the bios from gpu to edit, maybe I shouldn't deal with mobo bios eather, it's not worth the risk), nor disabling ulps, nothing works to make a 3D-only mode. Even as I found this helpful tread, it's a bit different, couse it has no clocks listed in my config file, but it has a "Force3dmode" Enable (beign disabed) and something reated to Power Play, but it doesnt work for me too.

It's running not bad... but anyways

Maybe you or someone is got a brilliant ideas?

Thanks!

have you tried msi afterburner? might be able to get it to force the higher clocks. turn on aero and see if that pushes the clocks up a bit. I had a small ibm netbook with that same cpu. it was pretty hard getting it to be fast. unfortunately the memory controller really limits the capabilities of the igpu though i remember it being able to at least do ddr3 at 12800 speed 1600mhz. What resolution are you running at? try targeting 1280x720 or similar.

in opera check to see if there's a setting for hardware acceleration. I know chrome has it as well as the new edge browser in win 10 (which i use now that its chrome based and i can sync all my chrome and Microsoft stuff in one browser)

also, this thread is pretty old. probably would have been best to start a new one

Hi! Yes I tried all kind of Afterburner's settings and couple of versions of it too. It's not giving an effect at all. Even in never versions it has a bit more options too and profiles. I'm running at 1280x1024 and it's not so bad it terms of operating performance and other daily tasks. With an SSD it has a more room to get fast moments, but after i installed more RAM it start to dig it really nice. It has share 512 mb of RAM to iGPU, for some reason, and no bios setting on it. But the memory is really slow (6gb/s read 3gb/s write and 4.5gb/s copy @ 1066mhs single channel) and a CPU is a bottleneck. Also the heavy anti-virus was unnecessery and i put a lighter Bitdefender, cause Avira start to do something crazy with it's software. I mean if I had an oppotunity to run the GPU at higher clocks every time it would be great and a bit faster in some cases. No worry about power consumption or a lifespan, ofcourse. If i can't, not a big deal. It's great to find a driver settings and this tread, but i think there is no solution for my situation as far as can see, unfortunately. Yeah, I think Opera do what it can and doing it right, but the flash is a bit heavy to it. Some websites are fast, some are laggy. But the newer video driver did a pretty good job! With an aero it's a nice to test tho. I think it's not related to it too much changing the frequency and it's running pretty smooth too.
Thanks for answer!

If running windows 10 you can just stick with the built-in anti-virus and edge seems quick enough and not quite as memory hungry, you could try Firefox on 7 also. I just use malwarebytes extensions in the browser to help with certain exploits that built in AV can't. You can also get malwarebytes anti exploit stand alone free

Damn. Well why's it stickied to the top of the subforum? Got my hopes up
because its incredibly useful to anyone with those cards, and it's not needed on newer ones

I think they're pretty useless cards now. I tried to use my 6770 for 2d tasks in Windows 10 a couple months ago, and if a MS Edge/Chrome window was any bigger than about 1300x750 pixels, smooth scrolling stopped working. And that was with forced 3D clock speeds, 100% GPU usage reported in GPU-z... 850MHz core and I forget what the RAM was set to, 1200MHz probably. I used the latest drivers available, from ~2015.

Looking back, that generation of cards wasn't supported long.

Technically it's as fast or faster than a 1030 I have (and use), and if I force its clocks to 1733/1500, 3440x1400 causes ~15% GPU utilization - could theoretically smooth scroll smoothly at 8K

Kay? That's got nothing to do with the topic, or what the guide was for.

It kind of does. Goes to increasing 2d clocks for 2d performance.
No, the guide was to fix flickering issues with high pixel clock monitors and low idle clocks, especially with crossfire

That issue keeps coming back every few generations, AMD and NVidia both just raise idle clocks to low 3D these days when its likely to occur (nvidia 10 series with 165Hz displays, multi monitor, etc etc)

Ah. My 6600 XT does what you mention.
Only my VRAM is affected though - it runs at full speed, all the time. Resolution is 3440x1440 @75hz

The way I understand it, it's not that the clock is high, it's that it's odd. Not standard, not planned for/optimized.

3440x1440 @ 60hz = slows to slowest
3440x1440 @ 75hz = full throttle

I don't have a 3440x1440 monitor that does 120hz, but I'm quite sure if I did, and I hooked it up, my 6600 XT clock profile would work properly

And with driver updates, some combinations [of resolution & refresh rate] no longer require the video RAM to run at full speed on certain graphics cards anymore (whatever problem it was that had AMD setting the video RAM speed so high, was rectified).

I'd keep going but that's all I know, I swear!

didn't work with 1080p and 144Hz Vram is still sitting at 2010MHz at the desktop
