That test seems a bit odd...
My old "AMD Radeon R9 290" + "AMD Ryzen 7 1800X" gets 107.08 fps in OpenGL ?!?

When in the history of AMD have they released a GPU that offered substantially lower power usage vs TDP?

9700 Pro. Atleast we know July-August unless the push it back further.

That was ATi. AMD history start with the HD 2K series and the 2900Pro/xt weren't exactly well known for sipping on the juice.

I would wager the 6850/6870/6950/6970 are probably the only low wattage units really let go, they didn't compete with NV top end and the next series while great consumed all the power lol.

They were pretty emphatic that this card is not for gamers. Unfortunately we'll need to wait until the end of July now.

This is bad, Vega FE using pro workstation drivers is seriously behind the NVIDIA Quadro line with workstation drivers. Vega FE might be faster than TitanXp. but this one has no pro drivers. This is not a fair comparison at all.

Well part of it because vega frontier is priced way less than the quadros and more than the gaming cards so from a price point it makes sense. Also do note vega doesnt have double precision at half the rate and is rather 1/8 or so if i remember correctly so it wont be geared for the professional fp64 compute sector. It's strictly targeting fp16 and fp32 at a pricepoint betweek 1k and 2k which is very competitive against the nvidia counterparts at that price. This is a smart move because the high precision fp64 is strongly cuda based and amd has had problems competing even with all its past compute glory capability over nvidia in past generations. As for fp16 and machine learning/Ai, AMD has a much better chance because its an emergimg market so AMD has a chance to make a presence still because nvidia doesmt have a foothold as strong as fp64

So, what relation is this card to the compute M125 card? Is it the same hardware? And what relation is Vega to this FE card?

RTG have clearly made an AMD Titan card and intend fleecing folk for it. But, is the chip the same as the compute one? It sounds like it.

3 cards made from same chip, not cut down, just software castrated? Can someone clarify because I'm confused.

Nvidia didn't even release GP100 to the general consumer. Only GP102 and even that was hardware differentiated.

Exactly. AMD are comparing apples with pears in a lame attempt at making their underperforming product look better and now they look idiotic for doing so. Have they learned nothing from the Bulldozer fiasco?

They'd be much better off comparing like with like and being honest about the performance of their cards and pricing them accordingly. Everyone will respect them for it and their fans will still buy their cards.

Now cue the AMD apologists flaming me...

I think thats where they are headed with this

MI25 = HPC
WX---- = Workstation
Frontier Edition = Prosumer
RX Vega = Gamer

It resembles an accelerated Nvidia release.

Seems about right and at least AMD sees prosumers as professiobals with occasional gaming, unlike nvidia who sell the Titan Xp with gaming drivers.

Shame the card is coming to prosumer no mans land first, but it's SPECView results aren't particularly stella, and it's gaming performance isn't up to speed yet apparently.

I guess they need to save face as they did say Vega was coming 1h 2017

Vega 1h 2017. They never promised rx vega. Ryzen is was q1 and then only ryzen 7 was released. Similar with pascal and the i9's, albeit reversed there.

Quite right, but I would say VEGA FE is for AI/deep learning and Mi25 is the same but for datacenters. HPC needs FP64 which VEGA 10 lacks. Last HPC gpu from AMD has been hawaii based firepro S9100, with 2.11 TFlops of FP64. VEGA 20/NAVI will be the next gpu for HPC from AMD.

Nobody answered my genuine question though. Is RX Vega, Vega Founders Edition(I know) and M125 the same card? Same memory, same cores etc.
I think RX Vega is 8GB memory, so it is an identical situation, FE is Titan, more memory, same card. But M125, is that also the exact same card as FE?

Different drivers and the MI25 is an accelerator, meaning it's not for general workstation use with a monitor connected directly to the gpu. Accelerators are meant for servers and AI generally, not bormal workstation use and have completely different drivers.

Vega FE uses 8-hi 8GB HBM2:s and RX Vega will use 4-Hi 4GB HBM2:s. PCB could be the same, core is the same. Raja said it's possibly to later release of 16GB version of RX vega
("
Can we pretty please get a 16 GB variant of Radeon RX Vega?
RK: We will definitely look at that…
"),
but first gaming version is for sure 8GB card.

PS. it's MI25, I not 1. Machine Intelligence 25.

Everyone's getting completely different results as well, though.

Thing is they aren't getting the discrepancy in resolution that the AMD screenies show. That's the fishy bit

Monitor and rendered can be different. Think we're seeing confused software.

I thought AMD sent some of these out for review or something, is this not the case.

At least they put the actual clocks on the Vega page now.

Typical Engine Clock: 1382MHz (Base Clock is not listed)
Peak Engine Clock: 1600MHz
Memory Clock: 945MHz
Typical Board Power: < 300W
PSU Recommendation: > 850W

Impressive isn't it, after all the hype, you can actually buy Vega, and based on Scan now showing pre-order many already have.

And we still don't really know how it performs, the mind boggles.
