What res u game in? is 1280x1024 to low?

I've been gaming in 1280x1024 my old 17" LCD monitors max for a while now. However i resently was given a 19" crt. Yeah i know what ya thinking CRT:laugh: But its bigger than my LCD & will run much higher res 1600x1200@85htz. Thing is it has a slight off focus section bout 4inch diamitor in the centre of the screen when running at 1600x1200. This is'nt happing at lower res.

So i have a choice, game at 1600x1200 & ignore the slight blurryness or run in the next below 4:3 aspect which is 1280x1024. Just out of interest i wonderd what other gamers would do in my position?

Oh & buying a new monitor isnt really an option at moo ! To skint :ohwell:

Edit: Problem sorted ! turns out i just needed to tweak the focus control inside the monitor. N1 tigger :rockout:

I game 1920 x 1080, 42" LCD :rockout: (but admittedly thats with a 360 lol)
 
crt's have a focus control,but it means taking the back off,it will be marked near the ht section towards the back of the circuit board.set it on 1600x1200 and adjust the focus control and see if it solves the out of focus problem.

does'nt cost no money,but be careful if you try it.

I went from gaming at 1024x768 to 1920x1200. Professional gamers use CRT monitors for better gameplay, currently the best LCDs dont meet the exactness given to you by CRT. As for space reservation, an LCD is still king. A dot pitch of 1600x1200 at 19" is definately pretty sharp, but if it is out of focus, there is no point.

Good point ! thats something i have adjusted on a tv before admitedly it was years ago. Wasnt shaw if this monitor will also have a focus control. I'll give it ago tomoz.

Seems even 1280x1024 is considered low res these days.
 
well to make you feel better - i play on 1280 x 1024 very happily on a 19" lcd - i did have a 26" widescreen at one point but i didnt like it . its all about personal choice
 
i'd go for 1280x1024 because its the highest res i can go on my monitor and i really like playing 1280x1024 :)
 
Maybe i'm just being greedy wanting 1600x1200. Must admit the differece between 1280x1024 & 1600x1200 isnt that noticable.

I do find its a defo advantageous to run very high res when long distance snippering ! You can still see the enemy as a person & not 2 or 3 pixels !
 
1024*768, it's all my monitors support (Have a feeling the LCD will go higher but I haven't arsed round to get them both running at different resolutions.
 
I play 1280x1024 on a 19" monitor and it looks awesome. I can't imagine anything higher, that'd be HD material.
 
Im playing on 1920x1200 now that i upgraded to this
24'' monitor. It makes everything look crisp and sharp!!
 
1680x1050 and dependent on the game, 4xAA.
 
1680x1050 here, but I gamed a long time on 1280x1024 and my gf does and I don't see a real detail difference.

1680 x 1050 with the AA cranked up full :rockout:

All on a 22" samsung syncmaster - full HD TV too, use it for my PS3 aswell.
 
I just grabbed a new Asus 21.5" to game at 1920x1080 on my 4850 Xfire. WOOHOO!!! Eyecandy kix a$$. :D
 
Depends on the game my monitor can go to 1440x900 but in games i generally have to lower it a tiny bit with my 8600 GTS.

And 1280x1024 is fairly low but i generally have to play at that res and its fine to me.(remember the lower the res the more CPU usage)
 
22" LG 1650x1080/512mb 4850.

I'd love a 24" 1080p lcd lovely though.
 
Id like to go up to a 24" or maybe even a 26 / 28, but I need one with quite versatile controls and a remote seeing as I use this as my TV via play TV.
 
I gamed at 1280x1024 for years and finally went up to a 24 inch 1920 x 1200 and believe me, there is a significant difference. If you can adjust it from the back, gun for the higher resolution.
 
1024x768 @ 85 Hz 17" CRT


Generally speaking:
17" = 1024x758
19" = 1280x1024
21" = 1600x1200
