Who still uses ATI CCC?

some games use CAT AI for additional effects - typically games that were developed with ATI's support (similar to nVidia's TWIMTBP program) . . . for example: FEAR - with CAT AI on, shadows are darker and have a more volumetric effect, with it off, the game is nowhere near as dark.

Although, for users with crossfire, CAT AI needs to be set to at least low for crossfire to work - if it's disabled, CF is disabled as well. It's sometimes aggrevating, as CAT AI can cause extra rendering stress (especially with benchmarks), as certain rendering features are enabeled (like I mentioned with the FEAR example).

I've used CCC ever since I've owned ATi cards. I use it force AA or AF in games that don't have options for it, like EverQuest and Unreal.

agreed - although, their thinking is probably that if you have the extra firepower for CF, then the marginal hit from AI effects aren't anything to worry about

you can use ATI Tray Tools - under hardware, you can go into the Crossfire menu, and select 'enable crossfire'

Or - open CCC, enable crossfire and hit 'OK' - from there out, every time you boot your system, CF will be enabled until you open CCC and disable it again.

You don't need CCC to enable crossfire on a 4870x2. I'm guess it is only if you have two physical cards. I used RT when I first installed Vista earlier this year because of the dreaded code 43 going around at the time. Controlled my clocks, fans, and setup launch apps to switch from 2d to 3d speeds on my clocks. I had 2d as low as 300/325 without any problems. Ran great and dropped a couple degrees off the cards. It was nice. Oh, and I still had crossfire working when gaming without having to setup anything.

Ok Ai is ATi fixes to programs and games that are not written for them. They go out and fix developers flaws and write in their own fixes. This is what you get with Ai.

On Crossfire you should set it on normal, but advance with some programs work better. I think this because of AR, and how AI is fixing glitches as shadows and such.

I use it for the ease of not having to edit the files to get what i want. It is interwesting to read through the options in the files and see what ATI has in there but not shown however.

Explorer.exe takes up way more ram than does CCC and MOM.exe combined

I also use ccc, and find it work better than without and more stable than those customized drivers.

My 9.6 CCC uses ~2mb of memory when running in the background and 30mb when opened in advanced mode, hardly the memory hog it used to be.

The other features att adds could be useful, things like fan controls and memory speed controls are in CCC now for all new cards as well as lots of AA options, that just leaves rendering modes which can be controlled by adjusting the AI and aa/af options for each game to trick the CCC into a certain render mode.

7.9MB here + 106 VM, plus the mom.exe which is another 5.8MB +43.5 VM.

I normally have it on auto but games like Tiger Woods it's good to force edge detect x4 (x12) makes it look real nice.


As for CAT AI i turn it off a long with AAA. Although i will try a game with AI on and decide if i want it on or off though.

Just to let some people know you do not need three things to run CCC properly. I would only disable these processes if you are concerned about "bloat".

MOM.exe : Catalyst Control Center: Monitoring program

atieclxx.exe: AMD External Events Client Module

atiesrxx.exe: AMD External Events Service Module

I understand people dislike of CCC but ATI has made great progress on improving it. To me ATItools is out dated compared to the new CCC. Another issue with ATItools is it lacks the most up to date profiles. This can cause problems with newer cards like the 4890.

Guys if I were you and wanted the most juice out of my ATI card I would suggest you use CCC. Nothing can beat a properly setup CCC.

It's not just the amount of RAM used. It's also the number of programs running, plus keeping bootup times to a minimum. I like my PC to run lean and mean.

same here and i dont have problems with it, im on a Inferior machine. i have 29 Services running most of the time.

The only reason I install CCC anymore is VPU Recover. Even if CCC is disabled, un-loaded from the system, it'll kick in should you manage to lock up a GPU . . . normally saving your butt from a system restart.

I disable VPU Recovery right off the back as in the past it tended to make my machines unstable.
