The proper OS and the different kernel is WiN7. 8 has the UI of 7 "without the start menu bs. 10/11 are the same just 11 is a make over

Huh? What? I'm still on Windows 10 and I don't plan to change that in the foreseeable future.

Hi,
There was very little difference in the two os's there
I liked vista to but 7 only added libraries and aero effects so they aren't all that different but you went to far back
Erm 7 fixed what was broken

Indeed. I remember Microsoft itself has a page explaining the difference between the two regarding memory management, and the differences were HUGE! We thought the slow down with Vista was just low RAM with early OEM computers but that was part of the issue. I tried to search for the page but I think Microsoft removed it or something just like any other older Windows pages. :ohwell:

I still remember MS saying that Win10 would be the last Windows, that they just would update that forever. Yet we still have Win11.

Windows 7 was a pita with never ending searching for windows updates.....

This. And in its later days you had to install manually one update for win update to work :D

That was because the official updates support was EOL..

Yep, I remember that. Had just to hurry for the updates that I didn't get viruses or other crap.

Well yeah they trying to make it a service that's why.

I'll check it out.

Lately I've been playing with stripped down custom builds. It will be interesting to see what comes out.
NTLite FTW.

Haven't even tried Win11 as yet, so may just wait for Win12.

Win11 is fine, and you can use it on “older/unsupported” hardware just fine if you install off a USB instead of using the picky win10 to 11 updater. I just wish they’d be consistent. One of my computers it had Task Manager in right click of Taskbar on the other I had to edit the registry to get that feature back. Huh!?

Would mean your other's weren't fully updated

Windows Updates should be turned off since most of the time they don't bring anything but broken things.

Don't know if you ever heared of security updates....

Hi,
Microsoft did that all by themselves by screwing up and installing bad update clients repeatedly and incomplete net framework updates to which broke ms server communications with win-7 machines think 8 also saw issues after win-10 released

Most of this didn't start until win-8 appeared and was considered by most as complete shit !
Then of course forced updating also started so yeah quite a coincidence in win-7 updating problems right, and the push for win-8.. but yeah all win-7's fault

Yep you aren't missing anything.

I agree with him though. I mean... If you just game and browse the web (banking like) but if you have defender I don't see why one should. That's my opinion

AMD and Intel have done what MS have been asking them to do since 2012, which is include hardware support for VBS, in their 8th gen Core and 2nd gen Ryzen generations. 11 exists just to finally push those requirements. Doubt future versions would require anything special, at worst they would support them (such as Pluton). Or again, if there even will be any future versions for the foreseeable future...

and before any of you go 'well they can just make Pluton a requirement!' - cutting off some old CPUs out of your supported processors list is one thing, but denying 99% of people access to your OS because their CPUs don't have Pluton is extremely idiotic and, despite popular consensus stating the otherwise, Microsoft is not dumb to do that.
You realize this is EXACTLY what MS did with windows 11? Just change the "pluton" requirement to "TPM 2.0 and "X" platform or newer". A 8th gen pentium can run 11, but a 7th gen core i7 cannot, according to MS logic. Unless it is certain mobile 7th gen parts, then you can. MS has never explained WHY certain 7th gen CPUs can run 11 while others cannot, none of them have VBS.

MS' arbitrary BS cut off more then 2/3rds of all computers worldwide and played a direct role in 11's sluggish performance on the market.

What do you believe updates defender?!.
