I have a brother who is a machinist and i think i may have him make a cooler for my 9800gt using old CPU coolers like this.

I will match the screw pattern from the stock cooler and thread it for the stock screws and spings so it would be a bolt right on setup. I was wondering if im the only one crazy enough to rock a HUGE cooler. :p I mean could you imagine the cooling you would get out of a cooler that was used to cool something like a prescott core?

Also thinking i could cut theese up and make some huge ramsinks. I say this would be recycling at its finest.

This is just an idea right now and i'm wanting to know if others might want theese?

so the question is, is 3 slot cooling just too mutch?

looks like it might cause the GPU some damage if it is too heavy.

This thread has been moved. Please read the rules/requirements for posting in the for sale thread. I think it's a good idea, though I think people would be weary of buying such a cooler. Only bump threads once every 24 hours.

thought that might be the right place as i was trying to see if anyone would ever want to buy one.

And i dont see why they would be warry, most of the coolers we buy are more then likley made in 3rd world countrys by kids who cant spell and work for rice. My brother is a professional who works for aztec industrys.

Everything would be made in a 20 million dollar shop.

Not a bad article, n 18c when under load is quite significant. Although i would be worried bout the weight of the cooler still.

I don't question that, it's just not very hard to do it yourself is all. If you read the rules you must have the actual items you are selling in your possession with pictures with your name in the pics. One of the problems using this type of cooler is that it blows no air onto the vram, though perhaps doing some cross drilling along the outer edges of it may work.

Id be worried about the age of the tech you are comparing your idea to...that is a 6600GT AGP for crying out loud, and look at the shit cooler it started with. Not the best idea in my honest opinion!

I think that article is pretty rigged. Did you see the cooler that was on the GPU to begin with? I could get a 18C difference in temp by sitting on the card. I bet you any single or dual slot solution available today would blow the lid off of those three slot coolers.

Especially coolers rocking the copper heatpipes. :D

Thanks for the input.

I will do some reseach and testing to see how it does. Oh and also. Am i to understand that heatpipes dissipate heat better then a solid copper core base?

Would this idea work great with a sink milled from a solid copper block and a 80 mm fan with a shroud around it blowing heat out the back of the case?

I've thought about doing this with a modern cpu cooler . . .

it beats having them work on the streets selling drugs or something as dangerous.

but i digress... i doubt that these Solid aluminum heat sinks can really be on par with say a copper one with heat pipes and only using 2 slots instead of 3
