HIS x1900gt
believed to be non-unlockable
GB_PIPE_SELECT = 0x6E4B

Still a fast card though. I first used it with the standard HSF, it got so hot going through HL2:LC that i couldnt keep my hand on the top of the heatsink... slapped on my Zalman VF900 and solved that problem though :p. (went from 65c idle to 35c)

I took a look a round the core though when i was installing the Zalman HSF, didn't see anything in particular that stood out.. maybe one day we will have a wonder bios for use 0x6E4B'ers.

Edit: Even if I did want to just try to unlock... If i fail again... then i have to wait another 2 weeks for an RMA.... had to use a 6600gt while my x1800gto was out pwned... horrible.. horrible... no quality........... *sobs*

BTW It's confirmed 1.2ns
does this mean its rated for 1.4g
BC12 = 1.25ns rating = 800MHz = DDR1600

Lower nanosecond-rating is of course better.

I have just bought an BBA x1900GT to try the mod.

I wanna have luck and have an 0x3FE4 GB_PIPE_SELECT!

I've sold my Sapphire.

When it will arrive me, I will try and I will post :)

Hmm.. just thinking of something, is it possible to somehow flash/trick the card into believing it is a 0x3FE4 and then unlocking it? or are the XL cores doomed to 12 pipes or mabye hardmodding?

Just a thougt.
I know nothing of programing or the inner workings of the GPU bios roms (other than when I flashed my 9500 to a 9700 ;) like 2-3+yrs ago, scary as hell, but it is still running strong with the 4 extra pipes unlocked and a mild OC (have the zalman bigass blue cooler on it) in my friends pc.:pimp: )

Unfortunately NO way to trick the core showing 0x3FE4  .

Ok this is what i did.

1. i used atiwinflash 110 to make a backup of my current firmware.
2. then i used HxDen hex editor to modify the backup i just made to unlock the pipes /0x0070 19 on 18/. ok done.
3. then i used RaBit 2.1 to edit the backed up rom file, got the error , kept on going, and modified the voltages, set gpu to 1.225 v and left clock speeds default. ok saved, done.
4. time to flash - i used atiwinflash 110 to flash the backed up modded firmware to the card, flash carried out correctly after 5 seconds or so looks like it worked, rebooted

checked atitool and ..., still 12 pipes

My bios is 724B, 0xAD4E Sapphire.

This is end of my story and my 16 pipes in my cart.

at 12 pipes and some extreme overclocking, this card will outperform something like an x1800xt I think...

I'll try again, since I Didn't get any answers:
tofu/sagi_10/any1 with an unlockable GT: did/do your unlockable cards have 6 or 7 of these chips/mosfets? http://img.techpowerup.org/060705/1900vs1900955.jpg

If it has 7 of them, I think we (who have 6) sadly can put away our attempts to try to flash it to 16 Pipes as it is most likely locked @ Hardware level. :banghead:
(mabye it is possible with a hard mod though)

Noobie intrusion

Forgive this interuption by non-IT professional.

I happened upon this discussion after Googling x1900GT

And I googled it because NewEgg is offering the Connect3D version of this card for only $179 until 4 Aug (after a $100 rebate)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814142068

I was considering the x1900xtx before learning of the tantalizing possibility of modding a x1900GT to the x1900xL level.

But after wading through the first 26 pages of this discussion and then fast-forwarding to the end I haven't yet determined if this mod is now worked out or likely to end in bitter disappointment.

Would someone familiar with the evolution of this discussion please sum up? Is the Connect3D version of the kind that CAN be modded?

If so, would that person please direct me to the clearest, plainest language of how a Noobie might accomplish this?

Thanks very much!

In my honest opinion, don't buy an x1900gt if your relying on the unlockability of the card to get the performance you want. If you have the money to go for the X1900xtx, by all means do so. The X1900gt is a great card nonetheless, but unlockability of it seems very 'iffy'. Though at that price on newegg, if you have a crossfire board, it would probably work out better to get two X1900gt's going instead of one X1900xtx.

Theres my 2 centz.

The X1900GT is 95% not unlockable where the remaining 5% are the PRO cores and the chance we have overlooked something

hia.

I have read almost every single message in this threat. it is quite informative although people get lost into overclocking issues out of desperation about the inability to unlock.

even so I am convinced to buy this card. I wont be overclocking but I would like to try to unlock if my card fits into the "0x3FE4 rule"

whatever. anyway I have read somewhere that x1900gt's are simply x1900 and x1900xt's with faulty pipelines. what do you say. can this be true? if so that will simply explain that why somebody could not unlock it until now.
