Iiyama Unveils the ProLite P2252HS Monitor

Iiyama has today announced the ProLite P2252HS, a 21.5-inch display equipped with a tough, 2 mm-thick glass panel that provides protection against dirt, scratches and even certain shocks. Apart from the stronger (TN) panel, the monitor is pretty standard and features a Full HD (1920 x 1080) native resolution, a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, a 5 ms response time, D-Sub, DVI and HDMI connectors, and dual 1 W speakers.

The ProLite P2252HS is backed by a three-year warranty and 36,800 yen (~ 370 USD).

NEC Introduces the MultiSync E224Wi 21.5-inch AH-IPS Monitor

NEC Display Solutions of America, a leading provider of commercial LCD display and projector solutions, announced today the 21.5-inch MultiSync E224Wi-BK wide screen desktop monitor targeted to corporate and small-to-medium-sized business users.

This display features a premium-grade AH-IPS panel, which provides wide viewing angles, outstanding color consistency and image accuracy. It also includes DisplayPort for added connectivity options and height adjustment features.

Packard Bell Launches New Widescreen Monitors

Acer-owned PC maker Packard Bell has now officially introduced five entry-level widescreen monitors, the Maestro Series 226DXbmid and 236Dbd and the Viseo Series 223DXbid, 243Dbid and 273Dbi. The 21.5-inch and 23-inch Maestro models feature a 14.5 mm profile, an IPS panel with 178/178-degree viewing angles, an LED backlight, a 5 ms response time, and a dynamic contrast ratio of 100,000,000:1. Both the 226DXbmid and 236Dbd include D-Sub and DVI connectors, with the former also boasting an HDMI input.

The Viseo displays have a 19 mm profile, a piano black finish, a Full HD (1080p) TN panel, a 5 ms response time, and D-Sub, DVI and HDMI connectivity.

Apple Updates iMac

Apple today updated iMac with fourth generation Intel quad-core processors, new graphics, next generation Wi-Fi and faster PCIe flash storage options. The updated iMac brings the latest technology to the stunningly thin design and gorgeous display of the world's leading all-in-one desktop.

"iMac continues to be the example that proves how beautiful, fast and fun a desktop computer can be," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. "Inside its ultra-thin aluminum enclosure, the new iMac has the latest Intel processors, faster graphics, next generation 802.11ac Wi-Fi and faster PCIe flash storage."

I-O Data Announces Six New LCD Monitors

I-O Data today revealed the addition of six new monitors to its product offer. This release wave includes the 23.6-inch LCD-MF243E and LCD-AD242E, the 23-inch LCD-MF235XBR, the 21.5-inch LCD-MF223EB and LCD-AD222E, and the 18.5-inch LCD-AD193E. Coming in both black and white versions (with the exception of the LCD-MF235XBR), these displays feature an LED backlight, a TFT panel (the LCD-AD193E has a native resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, the rest are all 1920 x 1080), a 5 ms response time, a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, and a three-year warranty.

The LCD-AD193E, LCD-MF223E, LCD-MF243E and LCD-MF235XBR also have built-in stereo speakers, while all include VGA and DVI connectivity. HDMI is available on the LCD-MF223E, LCD-MF243E and LCD-MF235XBR.

I-O Data will start rolling out the LCD-MF235XBR, LCD-MF243E and LCD-AD242E at the end of this month, whereas the rest will debut in October.

NEC Announces the AccuSync AS222WM Monitor

NEC Display Solutions of America, a leading provider of commercial LCD display and projector solutions, announced today its new 21.5-inch AccuSync AS222WM desktop monitor targeted to small-to-medium-sized business users.

The widescreen AS222WM offers a 25 percent reduction in power consumption due to the elimination of its predecessor's CCFL backlight. Mercury-free LED backlighting improves energy efficiency while enabling easy transport and wall mounting capabilities. The AS222WM is compliant with the latest regulations, including ENERGY STAR 6.0 and TCO 6.0, is EPEAT Silver rated, and includes ECO Mode and carbon footprint meter tools.

HP Releases the EliteDisplay E221c IPS Monitor

HP has this week introduced a new 'built-for-business' monitor, the EliteDisplay E221c. This model features a 21.5-inch IPS (in-plane switching) panel, an LED backlight, a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, a 7 ms (gray-to-gray) response time, a dynamic contrast ratio of 5,000,000:1, VGA, DVI and DisplayPort connectors, and a stand allowing for tilt, swivel, pivot and 150 mm height adjustment.

HP's monitor also comes with built-in (rear firing) speakers, a 720p webcam with dual microphones, and a 2-port USB hub. The EliteDisplay E221c has a three-year warranty and costs $219.

Samsung Introduces 21.5-inch Zero Client Cloud Display

Samsung Electronics America, Inc. is exhibiting its latest virtualization products and solutions at VMworld 2013, an annual conference for IT professionals focusing on virtualization and cloud computing. Samsung will be showcasing a number of virtualization products for the first time in the U.S. at VMworld, booth #1729, from August 25-29. These include the new NB-NH Cloud Stand, the all-new 21.5" NC221 and the rest of Samsung's 2013 NC Series zero client lineup of cloud displays, equipped with the new 2nd generation Teradici chipset (Tera2) processor for lower energy costs and greater power efficiency.

"Samsung is dedicated to supporting enterprise customers with products that offer businesses across vertical markets such as education, federal government, corporate, banking/financial and healthcare with secure and efficient ways to embrace cloud computing," said Tod Pike, senior vice president at Samsung's Enterprise Business Division. "Samsung continues to drive technology leadership in virtualization and cloud display by providing solutions like the NB-NH Cloud Stand that enable businesses to more easily deploy, maintain and manage user environments that are less vulnerable to security risks, while also freeing up valuable desktop real estate."

I-O Data Also Rolls Out New 21.5-inch Touchscreen Monitor

In addition to the HDPD-SUT series durable hard drives, I-O Data rolled out the LCD-MF223FBR-T, a 21.5-inch touchscreen monitor for Windows 8 PCs. The monitor features an ergonomic stand, which lets you tilt it to make touch actions more comfortable. It features a 5-point multi-touch surface, letting you perform complex touch-based UI gestures. Its surface features an durable 8H glass surface, which is tested to withstand the drop of a 227 g iron ball from a height of 145 cm.

Purely as a monitor, the LCD-MF223FBR-T features a TN-film panel that provides 170°/160° (H/V) viewing angles, 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution, 1000:1 static contrast ratio with dynamic mega-contrast, 220 cd/m² maximum brightness, 5 ms response time, and a typical power draw of 18W. Display inputs include DVI, D-Sub, and HDMI. A USB 2.0 connection relays touch input. Accessories include 2W stereo in-built speakers. Measuring 516 × 132~324 x 384 mm (WxDxH), the display weighs 4.7 kg. It is slated for market release by the end of April.

Acer H6 Series Monitors Launch in the US

Acer America is now offering its H6 Series LED-backlit displays to consumers in the United States. Svelte and savvy, the new monitors feature near zero frame construction for elegant aesthetics as well as seamless visuals when using multiple monitors simultaneously, including video walls.

Acer's newest monitors are available in two sizes - 21.5-inch (H226HQL) and 23-inch (H236HL). Both models have Full 1080p HD IPS panels, which provide consistent and accurate color performance from wide viewing angles up to 178 degrees. They can also tilt from -5 to 15-degrees, so users can adjust them for the most comfortable fit.

Zalman Wakes Up PC Display Division, Starts Off on a 1080p Diet

Korean PC cooling, power, and peripherals company Zalman, which is diversifying on steroids, woke up its PC monitor division with four new 16:9 LED-backlit LCD monitor models, the 21.5-inch TM215, the 23-inch TM230, the 27-inch TM270 and TM270VA. The seven-year old 1080p is Zalman's resolution of choice for all four, and so are some commonalities such as 5 ms response time, dynamic mega-contrast, 250 cd/m² brightness, 170°/160° viewing angles, dual HDMI inputs (except on the 21.5-inch model), and 2W stereo sound. The TM270VA stands out with a VA (vertical alignment) panel. Zalman's monitor lineup should begin rolling out this quarter.

Apple iMac Available on November 30th

Apple today announced the all-new iMac will be available on Friday, November 30. Featuring a stunning design, brilliant display with reduced reflection, faster processors and an innovative new storage option called Fusion Drive, the new iMac is the most advanced desktop Apple has ever made. The 21.5-inch iMac will be available through the Apple Online Store (www.apple.com), Apple's retail stores and select Apple Authorized Resellers. The 27-inch iMac will be available for order through the Apple Online Store and will begin shipping in December.

Dell Unveils a Pair of E-Series Entry Level Monitors

Dell unveiled the 21.5-inch E2213H widescreen, and 17-inch E1713S square monitors. The two pack LED-backlit TN-film LCD panels, and a basic feature-set. The E2213H features 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution, 160° H/V viewing angles, 5 ms response time, 250 cd/m² brightness, 1000:1 contrast ratio, and inputs that include DVI and D-Sub. The E1713S, on the other hand, features 1280 x 1024 pixels resolution, most other features remain the same, except it lacks DVI display inputs. The two are priced under $150.

Iiyama Announces ProLite T2234MC 21.5-inch Multi-Touch Monitor

Iiyama announced the ProLite T2234MC 21.5-inch monitor with multi-touch. Designed primarily for kiosks and public PCs, the monitor features a durable bezel and screen surface, that's compliant with IP54 standard. Helping its kiosk credentials is its IPS panel, which provides 178° horizontal and 178° vertical viewing angles, which lets you tilt the screen 90° without worrying about visibility in all angles, and LED backlit illumination that features low power draw.

The monitor features 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution, 8 ms response time, 1000:1 static and mega-contrast, 225 cd/m² maximum brightness, and display inputs that include D-Sub (VGA) and DVI. Measuring 517.5 x 219 x 351.5 mm (WxDxH), it weighs about 7.2 kg. Slated for mid-December, and backed by a 3-year warranty, the ProLite T2234MC from Iiyama is priced around 89,800¥ (about US $1100).

BenQ Announces A Pair of Vertical Alignment Monitors

BenQ announced the 21.5-inch GW2260HM and 27-inch GW2760HM, a pair of LED-backlit LCD monitors with vertical alignment (VA) panels. Both feature 1920 x 1080 pixels native resolution, 178° vertical and 178° horizontal viewing angles, 250 cd/m² brightness, mega-contrast, and 4 ms response time. Both models are no more than 16 mm-thick, and feature DVI, D-Sub, and HDMI display inputs. 2W stereo speakers come standard. The GW2260HM and GW2760HM from BenQ are priced at €189, and €259, respectively.

Fujitsu Esprimo All-in-One PC Lineup Unveiled

The last among Fujitsu's big Windows 8 product family is the Esprimo all-in-one/desktop series, including three lines: the class-leading Esprimo FH, Esprimo DH desktops, and entry-level Esprimo EH. The Esprimo FH series includes the 23-inch FH98, and 21.5-inch FH56. Both models have similar hardware options, including Core i7-3630QM quad-core processors, 8 GB memory, 3 TB HDD, BDXL drives, IPS LED touchscreens with 1920 x 1080 pixels resolutions, and TV tuners.

The DH series are loaded with conventional desktop hardware, including Core i7-3770 quad-core processor, 8 GB memory, 4 TB HDD, BDXL drives, and a variety of screen size and connectivity options. The Esprimo EH series includes entry-level 20-inch all-in-ones driven by AMD E-1200 APUs, with 4 GB memory, 1 TB HDDs, 1600 x 900 pixels screens, 802.11 b/g/n, gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth 4.0, and multi-format card readers. The three lines are expected to be launched on October 26.

Toshiba's Windows 8 PCs Now Available

Toshiba's Digital Products Division (DPD), a division of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., today announced that its consumer line-up of Satellite laptops and Ultrabooks, Qosmio laptops as well as its All-in-One desktops featuring Windows 8 are available for pre-order starting today and will be widely available for purchase from select U.S. retailers and ToshibaDirect.com on October 26.

Toshiba's new laptops feature spacious touchpads with Windows 8 gesture support to allow users to perform gestures on the touchpad as they would on a touchscreen device. In addition, to help transition consumers to the innovative interface in Windows 8, Toshiba's new PCs come pre-installed with Toshiba Desktop Assist, a utility designed to give users easy access to their programs, control panel, as well as files and folders, similar to the Start Menu in previous versions of Windows.

Apple's Seagate Hard Drive Troubles Date Back to 2009

An increasing number of Apple iMac customers are facing troubles with Seagate-made 1 TB hard drives their iMacs shipped with, since 2011. Apple responded with a free no-questions-asked hard drive replacement program for affected customers, but evidently believes some customers may be using faulty Seagate hard drives from even before 2011. The company stretched its hard drive replacement program to cover iMacs purchased between October 2009 and July 2011. "Apple has determined that certain Seagate 1TB hard drives used in 21.5-inch and 27-inch iMac systems may fail," said Apple.

The company is holding a list of iMacs by their serial numbers, which are likely to be affected by faulty hard drives. Customers who registered their iMacs have already been contacted, while others are presented with an online tool that lets you check if yours is one of those affected iMacs. Apple and its Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) are tasked with carrying out these free replacements. Customers will now be covered by replacement protection for three years, that's up to April 2013.

BenQ Announces the VW2230H and VW2430H VA Monitors

BenQ has this week introduced a couple of new, shiny widescreen monitors, the 21.5-inch VW2230H and the 24-inch VW2430H. Both models feature an asymmetrical design, a white coating, a mobile phone holder (that little green thing), and make use of LED backlighting and a VA panel.

BenQ's displays have a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, a 4 ms (GtG) response time, a 5,000:1 contrast ratio, 250 cd/m2 brightness, D-Sub, DVI and HDMI connectors, and come with the Senseye 3 Human Vision Technology offering seven pre-set viewing modes - Standard, Movie, Game, Photo, sRGB, Reading, and Eco.

Dell has this week introduced no less than five new monitors, the 27-inch S2740L, the 24-inch S2440L, the 23-inch S2340L and the 21.5-inch S2240L and S2240M. These fresh displays are part of the company's 2013 S Series and feature thin bezels, Full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS (S2740L, S2340L, S2240L, S2240M) or VA (S2440L) panels with 178/178 degree viewing angles, and LED backlighting.

The IPS models have a 7 ms (gray to gray) response time and a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, while the VA monitor has a 5 ms response time and a 5,000:1 contrast ratio. The S2740L packs VGA, DVI and HDMI ports (plus a 2-port USB hub) while the S2440L, S2340L and S2240L come with VGA and HDMI inputs. The S2240M has to settle for VGA and DVI. The S2740L and S2440L also have edge-to-edge glass.

NEC Display Solutions Adds 22-Inch 16:9 IPS Monitor to MultiSync EA Series

NEC Display Solutions of America, a leading provider of commercial LCD display and projector solutions, announced today an addition to its high-end IT desktop line, the MultiSync EA Series, with the 22-inch EA224WMi. This performance-driven monitor is designed for enterprise clients in the corporate, financial, healthcare and government markets.

The IPS panel of the EA224WMi provides wide viewing angles, outstanding color consistency and image accuracy. LED backlighting technology allows a thinner, lighter and sleeker design, as well as higher power efficiency. iiyama Intros Energy-Efficient 21.5-inch ProLite HD Monitor

Japanese display maker iiyama introduced a new 21.5-inch LED-illuminated desktop monitor that boasts of an impressive 53.5 percent energy savings compared to similarly-sized CCFL-illuminated monitors. LED-illuminated monitors typically offer 30-40 percent energy savings. The ProLite E2278HD from iiyama was announced for the Japanese market earlier today, which will start selling in early-August, priced at 13,800 JPY (US $176).

The iiyama ProLite E2278HD packs a TN-film LCD panel that's LED-illuminated. It features 1920 x 1080 pixels native resolution, 5M:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 250 cd/m² maximum brightness, and 5 ms response time. Display inputs include DVI (HDCP-capable) and D-Sub (VGA). Measuring 514.5 mm x 177.5 mm x 369.5 mm (W x D x H), it weighs about 2.7 kg. Its stand allows basic tilting.

Philips Introduces the 221S3UCB USB Monitor

Philips has today announced the European release of the 221S3UCB 21.5-inch monitor which gets both power and signal via a USB connection. Part of the business-oriented S-Line family, this USB display features a TN panel, white LED backlighting, a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, a 5 ms response time, a maximum brightness of 150 cd/m2, and a contrast ratio of 1,000:1.

The 221S3UCB also has a stand allowing for tilt, rotation and height adjustment, and it comes with a recommended price tag of 145 Euro (plus VAT).
