SilverStone Intros XE04-SP6P Socket TR5 or SP6 Cooler for 4U Server Cases

SilverStone today introduced the XE04-SP6P, a CPU cooler designed for AMD server/workstation sockets sTR5 and SP6, meant for those that use Ryzen Threadripper chips as server processors in rackmount cases as tall as 4U. The cooler is designed for thermal loads as high as 350 W, but is an aluminium fin-stack heatsink that measures 130 mm x 119 mm x 126 mm (WxHxD). This may look rather small for its thermal capacity in comparison to some desktop D-type coolers; but this is a server cooler, the desktop standards for fan noise go out the window, and a high-powered 92 mm fan is used to ventilate this thing. The cooler's capacity is mainly thanks to the high airflow.

The 92 mm high-powered fan comes pre-installed in a cavity between the fin-stack. It turns at speeds of up to 5,000 RPM, pushing 77.7 CFM of airflow at a phenomenal 10.67 mm H₂O static pressure, and a noise output of 43 dBA. The fan features double-ball bearings, and is rated for 90,000 hours. The nickel-plated copper base comes with a pre-applied thermal compound. From this base, six copper heatpipes convey heat through the fin-stack in a configuration similar to that of a D-type cooler. The cooler weighs 743 g, including its fan and factory-fitted RM. The company didn't reveal pricing.

Cooler Master Sues SilverStone, Enermax, and their OEM for AIO CLC Patent Infringement

Cooler Master has sued SilverStone, Enermax, and their common OEM, the Guangdong China-based Apaltek, for patent infringement of designs of their all-in-one, closed-loop liquid CPU coolers. The company has moved the United States District Court in the Central District of California, against the three companies for alleged IP violation in the design of its AIO CLCs. Cooler Master alleges that the three companies violate U.S. Patent numbers 10,509,446; 11,061,450; and D856,941 held by it. The infringing products referenced in the Lawsuit are SilverStone IceMyst 240, PF240, PF240W, IceGem 360, VIDA 240 Slim, and RGB Controller, and the Enermax Aquafusion ADV, Liqmax III ARGB, Liqtech 360 TR4 II Slim, and RGB Controller. Apaltek doesn't have any products in the retail channel under its own brand, but is being sued as the original technology supplier for SilverStone and Enermax.

Specifically, the Cooler Master suit alleges that the pump-inside-radiator design choice is a Cooler Master invention; as is the ARGB mini-controller. It also alleges infringement in the essential design of the coolers. It seeks damages and legal costs in Relief. One of the three defendants has reached out to TechPowerUp with a comment, in which it says that it finds it interesting that Cooler Master, which itself defended a similar patent infringement lawsuit against Asetek in 2016-17 would go on to allege patent infringement with smaller competitors such as Enermax and SilverStone, while leaving out certain other customers of Apaltek, such as MSI. They stated that they intend to defend their designs in the Court. This defendant termed Cooler Master's behavior as being that of a "bully."

SilverStone Intros Hydrogon D140 ARGB CPU Cooler

SilverStone today introduced its premium air based CPU cooler, the Hydrogon D140 ARGB (model: SST-HYD140-ARGB). As its name might suggest, this is a D-type (dual fin-stack) cooler that uses fans as large as 140 mm for ventilation, and hence fits into the large+heavyweight category of air coolers, targeting the segment of the market that really wants to avoid AIO coolers. The cooler uses a mirror-finish nickel-plated copper base, through which six 6 mm-thick heatpipes pass, which skewer the two fin-stacks on either of their ends. The two fin-stacks are capped off by a top-plate.

There are two fans involved in ventilating the heatsink, meant to be installed in a push-pull configuration. The "push" fan is a 120 mm, while the "pull" fan, located between the two fin-stacks, is a larger 140 mm spinner. Both fans come with addressable RGB LED illumination, and feature hydraulic bearings. The 120 mm fan turns at speeds ranging between 500 to 2,200 RPM, pushing up to 83.68 CFM of airflow at up to 4.01 mm H₂O static pressure, and up to 35.5 dBA of noise. The 140 mm fan, on the other hand, turns between 400 to 1,750 RPM, pushing up to 93 CFM of airflow at 2.24 mm H₂O static pressure, and up to 30.8 dBA of noise. With its fans in place, the cooler measures 140 mm x 160 mm x 136 mm (WxHxD), weighing 1.22 kg. Among the CPU socket types supported are LGA1700, AM5, LGA1200, AM4, and LGA2066. The company didn't reveal pricing.

SilverStone Intros Extreme1200R Platinum, an SFX-L PSU with 12V-2x6 Connector

SilverStone today introduced what is possibly the highest Wattage PSU in the SFX-L form-factor, the Extreme1200R Platinum. This contemporary PSU meets SFX12V 4.1 specification, which is comparable to ATX 3.1, along with PCIe CEM 5. It includes a native 12V-2x6 power connector capable of 600 W continuous power delivery and excursions within the PCIe Gen 5 spec. 12V-2x6 is a successor to 12VHPWR, and is designed to be less flimsy and prone to burn-outs than 12VHPWR, from improper connector coupling or cable bending.

The SilverStone Extreme1200R Platinum delivers 1200 W using a single 100 A +12 V rail, with Cybenetics Platinum rated switching efficiency. It comes with an all Japanese capacitor design, with most common electrical protections, against over/under voltage, overload, overheat, and short-circuit. A 120 mm fluid dynamic bearing fan is used to keep cool. Connectors include a 24-pin ATX, two 4+4 pin EPS, a 600 W 12V-2x6, four 6+2 pin PCIe, eight SATA power, three 4-pin Molex, and a Berg. The company didn't reveal pricing.

SilverStone Launches Updated HELA 2050R 2050 Watt Power Supply

Most of us are fortunate enough not to need a monster power supply in our PCs, but for those that do, SilverStone has launched an updated version of its 2050 Watt HELA 2050 power supply, simply named the HELA 2050R. It delivers no less than 170 Ampere on its 12 V rail and SilverStone claims a power density of 882 Watts per liter. The updated version comes with a pair of 12VHPWR connectors, with one modular cable with two GPU connectors and one modular cable with a single GPU connector.

The HELA 2050R is rather amazingly only 180 mm deep and in addition to the 12VHPWR connector it also has three standard 6+2 GPU connector with support for up to 14 GPU connectors, as well as support for up to 12 SATA drives, three Molex connectors, one floppy drive type connector and of course, the standard ATX and EPS power connectors. Note that the HELA 2050R is limited to 200-240 Volt input, as a standard 115 Volt outlet would be limited to 1650 Watt. No pricing was announced, but considering that the HELA 2050 is retailing for well over US$500, it's not expected that the 2050R will be any cheaper.

SilverStone Intros XE360-SP5 AIO Liquid CPU Coolers for AMD Socket SP5

SilverStone introduced the XE360-SP5, an all-in-one liquid CPU cooler for AMD Socket SP5, making it fit for servers and workstations based on the EPYC "Genoa" and "Genoa-X" processors, and its upcoming Ryzen Threadripper HEDT processors, assuming AMD sticks to this socket infrastructure. The cooler features a copper water block that's optimized for the chiplet design of Socket SP5 processors, considering the hottest components (the up to twelve "Zen 4" CCDs) are toward the edges, and the central region has the relatively cooler sIOD. The block does not have an integrated pump, which makes it 1U-capable. It measures 92 mm (W) x 25 mm (H) x 118 mm (D). The block is made of nickel-plated copper, with come of its structural parts being made of aluminium.

A set of 46 cm-long coolant tubes connects the block to the 28 mm-thick 360 mm x 120 mm radiator. This radiator has an integrated pump that turns at speeds of up to 4,000 RPM. A set of three SilverStone 120 mm fans comes included, each of these takes in 4-pin PWM input, turns at speeds ranging between 600 to 2,800 RPM, with a noise level of up to 46 dBA, airflow of up to 87.72 CFM, and 3.09 mm H₂O pressure. The company didn't reveal pricing.

SilverStone SUGO 17 Compact Micro-ATX Case Announced

SilverStone earlier this week announced the SUGO 17, a stretched version of the SUGO 16 that the company had launched in 2021. These are compact cuboidal tower cases. The new SUGO 17 is significantly deeper, with dimensions of 202 mm x 451 mm x and 286 mm (WxDxH), with the added depth creating room for a large, contemporary enthusiast-class graphics card that is 4 slots thick, and up to 40 cm in length, and 17.4 cm in height. SilverStone advertises this firmly as a Micro-ATX case, as it has 4 expansion slots exactly where you'd want them. Nearly every air-cooled, custom-design GeForce RTX 4090 or Radeon RX 7900 XTX that we know of, should fit comfortably.

The SilverStone SUGO 17 orients the Micro-ATX/Mini-ITX motherboard upside down, similar to BTX, so the upper compartment of the case is made entire up for room for the graphics card, without needing any PCIe risers, while the bottom half has room for a tower-type CPU cooler that's up to 15.8 cm in height. The frontal region of the case has room for a standard ATX (PS/2) PSU, but you can also use smaller SFX-L or SFX PSUs. Ventilation features include three 120 mm or two 140 mm fan vents along the top, three 120 mm along the right side, four 80 mm along the left side, and a 120 mm rear exhaust. Storage options include two 2.5-inch mounts, and a 3.5-inch bay that can also be used to hold onto a third 2.5-inch drive. You can mount liquid cooling radiators as large as 360 mm along the top- and right-side panels. The case comes in black and white color variants.

SilverStone IceMyst AIO CPU Coolers Feature Stackable 70 mm Fans to Cool Around the CPU Socket

A drawback of liquid-cooling your CPU has been to leave the other hot components around your CPU socket without a source of passive airflow. SilverStone is planning to address this, with their IceMyst line of AIO CPU coolers. These coolers feature puck-shaped pump-blocks, their top covers come off, so you could telescopically stack up a few fans. Each of these 70 mm fans comes with an 8-shaped frame, with one half of it stacking up with the block and providing the rest of the frame with 360-degree mobility, and the other holding the motor and impeller in place.

You can position them anywhere around the pump-block, so you can direct airflow to components such as the memory slots, VRM heatsinks, M.2 SSD heatsinks, etc. SilverStone even showed us an example of a stack with 7 of these fans. The IceMyst series comes in four models based on radiator size—240 mm x 120 mm, 280 mm x 140 mm, 360 mm x 120 mm, and 420 mm x 140 mm. By default, these coolers don't include any of those stackable fans, they're meant to be purchased separately as part of IMF70 IceMyst Upgrade Kits. SilverStone plans to launch the IceMyst AIO series, and its companion Upgrade Kits, in July 2023.

SilverStone Commemorates 20 Years With Fresh Case Designs at Computex 2023

SilverStone showed up to Computex with a variety of new cases on offer covering everything from a hybrid rack-mountable / pedestal 5U, to a retro-inspired April Fool's joke, to their largest and flashiest ATX full-tower to date. SilverStone has a reputation for quality and over engineering and it clearly shows in this year's selection. Starting off with the most engineered, and likely most expensive: the recently released Alta F2 was on display with a fully water cooled build showing off the expansive options available in the giant tower. Alta F2 utilizes a 90 degree rotated configuration taking design elements from the older Raven and Fortress series of cases. What the Alta F2 does different is where it allows the GPU to be installed; along the left side (traditionally the back) there are three expansion slots tilted at precisely 11.3 degrees.

These tilted slots are intended to offer as much forced air cooling as possible to the GPU from the bottom mounted 180 mm Air Penetrator 184i PRO fans, and SilverStone dialed in this angle to decimal precision to ensure this. There still exists a standard 9-slot layout along the top of the case (remember, everything is rotated 90 degrees so that's where the "back" is) for those that fill every slot on their motherboard. Since airflow moves bottom-to-top there are intake filters lining the lower chamber of the chassis, and the top panel is almost entirely open for exhaust. The lower chamber is also setup to allow four 3.5 inch drives to be mounted, while four more drives can be mounted in the optional forward mounted, and also angled, drive cages. The Alta F2 has already reached retail and demands a hefty $800 USD price point.

SilverStone Unveils ALTA F2, its 2023 Flagship Full-tower Case

SilverStone today unveiled the ALTA F2, its flagship gaming PC case. The case features a unique internal layout that maximizes component cooling using stack-effect cooling. The motherboard tray is rotated 90° such that its I/O faces the top of the case, while airflow from three large 180 mm Air Penetrator 184i PRO fans with air-channeling surfaces, direct air drawn from the bottom of the case onto almost all surfaces inside the case. There are three ways to orient your graphics card. The first of course sees it installed directly onto the motherboard, with its I/O facing the top, the next one sees it rotated, with its I/O still facing the top, but its fan vents facing the side-panel. The third and most unique orientation, sees the graphics card installed with its I/O pointing to the rear, but tilted sideways at a 11-degree angle.

The bottom chamber of the case is mostly empty, and serves as an air source for the 180 mm intake fans, but there are four 3.5-inch/2.5-inch mounts, should you want a handful drives located there. Three additional 2.5-inch drives can be mounted along spots on the motherboard tray, while four 3.5-inch drives can be mounted in a cage located in the front side. You get a total of 17 expansion slot possibilities—9 along the motherboard tray, 4 with a portion of it rotated, and 4 toward the rear.
