A Closer Look

The front of the PS-224 has a large, easy to read, LCD that is backlit with a blue LED which makes for easy diagnosis in any situation.

While the 4-pin Molex connector is clearly distinguishable, upon my first glance at the unit I was puzzled at the connector on the right. Lack of proper labels may have some people confused. I later realized that it was meant for testing Serial-ATA power. I found it tricky to attach the connector correctly to get a good reading however, after the first successful connection it is very easy to make use of it now.

Here you see the 20/24-pin connection. This must be connected to test any power supply as the unit gets its power from the PSU directly. The PS-224 also allows testing of both the common 4-pin and 8-pin CPU power cables. The diagram on the front of the unit depicts proper alignment for some of the connectors, such as 4-pin and 8-pin CPU power, and 6-pin PCI-Express power, the rest, such as the 24-pin ATX, 4-pin Molex, and Serial-ATA, are pretty self-explanatory. I would have liked a marking on the SATA connector. I did notice that you cannot test native 8pin PCI-express connectors with this unit, however most newer power supplies have the 6+2 break away connectors to allow for use with either 6-pin or 8-pin cards which will allow you to test with the PS-224.
