Corsair Carbide 400R Review

Introduction

I would like to thank Corsair for supplying the Carbide 400R review sample.

Corsair is a well known entity in the memory market and has expanded their portfolio to other products in recent years. Power supplies, SSDs and cooling products along with cases are now part of their line-up. We have taken a look at the very successful Corsair Obsidian 800D and 650D in the past and also the Graphite 600T. Today we get to look at their first chassis which sells for under 100 US Dollar by the name of Carbide 400R. It will be interesting to see what Corsair has cut from this in order to offer the Carbide 400R at such a price point.

The Carbide 400R is only available in one version. There is currently no other variant planned.

Packaging

Corsair is moving away from the full colored boxes as it seems. Their latest cases - the Obsidian 650D and the Graphite 600T both came in plain brown cardboard packages as does the Carbide 400R. In the front you will find an image of the chassis, while the rear holds a blow up diagram of the entire case along with a multi-language listing of all the features. Both smaller sides of the package are identical, with case specs and additional images. All in all, the package is quite informative, but really does not do this case justice.

Two Styrofoam spacers hold the chassis in place within the package and a plastic bag protects it from scratches and fingerprints during the packing process.

Contents

You will get assorted screws along with a USB 3.0 20-pin to USB 2.0 9-pin adapter. This is the first time I have seen the latter included with a chassis and its has been sorely missed. This gives the potential customer the freedom to buy this case and use it on their old mainboard, while still being able to connect things internally when going for a new mainboard in the future. On top of this you will receive a manual and a piece of paper stating the terms of the warranty.
