A Closer Look - Inside

To gain access to the interior of the chassis, simply remove the thumbscrews holding each panel in place. Both side panels are lined with sound-dampening material, but instead of utilizing two different kinds as with the DS2, Nanoxia simplified things by only using the thinner and heavier variant within the Deep Silence 3. Looking at the interior, its general layout looks much like what we have seen in the DS2, but the HDD cages have been redesigned completely.

Multiple openings in the motherboard tray and many spots for cable ties should make a clean system a possibility. You have around 15 mm of space behind the motherboard tray. Not as much as in other cases, it should still be enough.

The biggest update within the Deep Silence 3 are the aforementioned HDD cages. Gone is the single big cage, having been replaced by three separate ones. You can install five 3.5/2.5" inside the chassis, in a removable contraption for two drives alongside one for the remaining three, which may not be detached. The smaller cage can be pulled out completely, or placed on the plastic socket found on the floor. This socket is also the reason why there is no dust filter below the case, as it is blocks off those air vents.

Nanoxia also included three smaller drive trays, which are soley for 2.5" drives. To cool any drive installed there, two 120 mm fans have been pre-installed within the Deep Silence 3's front. In the top are the three external 5.25" bays, each equipped with a fairly good locking mechanism that won't require any screws or tools.

The aforementioned PSU bay in the back comes with four little foam-lined bumps, with foam to kill any vibrations. Above the bay are the motherboard expansion slots, each with a cover held in place by a black thumbscrew for easy and tool-less access. In the very top is the third fan. 140 mm large, it pushes air out the back of the case.

Both vents in the top of the chassis are covered by plastic covers that are lined with thick sound-dampening material. These ensure there are no openings in the top, sides, or the front through which system components can be heard.

All cables within the Deep Silence 2 are sleeved black to match the interior of the chassis. Aside from the now-standard plugs for both case connectivity and I/O, you will also find a single Molex plug to power the two fan controllers and a total of six connectors for 3-pin fans. You can control a set of up to three fans each with the sliders at the front of the chassis.
