The Crucial BX500 is a solid-state drive in the 2.5" form factor, launched in September 2018. It is only available in the 120 GB capacity listed on this page. With the rest of the system, the Crucial BX500 interfaces using a SATA 6 Gbps connection. The SSD controller is the SM2258XT from Silicon Motion, a DRAM cache is not available. Crucial has installed 64-layer TLC NAND flash on the BX500, the flash chips are made by SpecTek. Please note that this SSD is sold in multiple variants with different NAND flash or controller, which could affect performance, the "Notes" section at the end of this page has more info. To improve write speeds, a pseudo-SLC cache is used, so bursts of incoming writes are handled more quickly. The cache is sized at 10 GB. The BX500 is rated for sequential read speeds of up to 540 MB/s and 500 MB/s write.
At its launch, the SSD was priced at 21 USD. The warranty length is set to three years, which is above average, but shorter than the five years offered by many other vendors. Crucial guarantees an endurance rating of 40 TBW, a typical value for consumer SSDs.

Notes

Drive:

Newer revisions have 96-Layers TLC NAND and Silicon Motion SM2259XT
pSLC Cache volume might vary from 8GB to 10GB.
SpecTek is Micron subsidiary for lower grade NAND dies (those don't pass full performance or quality-control tests).

Controller:

This controller - as per all "XT" Silicon Motion's controller - doesn't support DRAM.
Controller clock ranges between 400 MHz ~ 437.5 MHz

NAND Die:

Usually lower endurance ratings than Micron's counterpart
