Another [slow] step to seeing SO-DIMM RAM used more often on desktop mini-ITX boards? They only take up ~60% of the space of regular size RAM, leaving more room for surface mounted components. Extra SATA ports, fan headers, mSATA/mPCI-e/M.2 slot, power delivery, better on-board audio etc. Or [possibly] just to reduce the need for extra PCB layers, and make the motherboard a little cheaper to manufacture?

Would also allow the SO-DIMM slots to be placed between the PCI-e slot and CPU socket, for better CPU cooler compatibility.

Might also allow for four RAM slots on a mini-ITX board (for a m-ITX rig needing more RAM than two slots can accommodate).
