AMD Ryzen Reviews and Shipping Coming on February 28th

Slight update on the Ryzen Event: reports confirm that Ryzen samples are finding their way to reviewers' hands, with the company's NDA being lifted on the 28th February - and the launch of AMD's flagship 1800X, 1700X and (my favorite so far) 1700 models on the same day. The remaining models in AMD's 17-strong Ryzen product-line are expected to follow a little later, on March 2nd.

Early leaked benchmarks have hailed the Ryzen launch as the second coming of a competitive CPU landscape for the first time in years, and as a turning point for AMD's position in the market. Fingers crossed, people: competition (alongside sufficient supply) is the holy grail for a consumer's wallet. Let's hope this is the much-needed spark towards reviving the CPU market and inciting future product development.

I'm actually surprised they will have all the models out for grabs in the spawn of only two days. The question here is, how high is the supply.

Pff, well I am simply too far from any upgrade right now. My PC is OK for my needs. I would actually request some more VR content for Android :D

ironwolfYuck. They should be lifting the NDA 1-2 days prior to the launch, so people can see some actual performance numbers and reviews. I was looking at a launch day purchase, provided there were good reviews beforehand. Going to wait now. Not sure how stock numbers are going to look, might miss out on the first batch. I'll live. Maybe. :p
I don't see how a launch day purchase is a smart thing. You may be ok with paying a premium for the CPU, but I'm pretty sure motherboards won't be fleshed out so soon. The more enthusiast oriented ones will come in the coming months and with such a new design, there's bound to be a few problems with the BIOS/UEFI as well. Buy after a month or two and you should be good.
dat_boiCan't wait for that 8core Ryzen for the price of the current 8core fx-8300. Watch me Intel fanboiz, I won't have to buy another CPU for at least a decade, hehe. AMD would never cuck its fanboys.
When we bought the i5-2500k and kept it for years, you were like "ok, look, intel isn't advancing at all".

ratirtWhat's the difference among the X pro and nothing CPU's. Well X has the XFR feature and 95 Watt the 1700 has 65Watt and what does pro give? 95 Watt no XFR?
XFR in my understanding will go much higher (limited by chips qualities and cooling), ignoring TDP.

Provided the review is good, a 1700X + X370 will get onto my list of "to buy" this year.

I haven't used an AMD box for years ever since the end of Phenom II days. Before that I used to be a heavy AMD user from Athlon Thunderbird all the way up to Phenom II.

JalleRYeaaaarrr.... cheap Second hand I7 for me........ :D

And hopefully a kick to intel so they can come out of Idle development..... :)
Good luck with that. Sellers think used CPUs are worth their weight in gold.

I'll just leave it here. :)

The Feb 28th waiting is killer, regardless. It's March 28th for me & anyone that waits for these CPUs & mobos in Israel.

RIP Bon Scott, rock'n'roll, muthaf***ers! lol jk

chaosmassiveSo since TPU has entered NDA pact with AMD
is this mean that no more leak from now on?
:(
No, they'll still be able to post stuff that was leaked elsewhere. They just can't publish any details on what they have on hand (if anything).

eddmanIf the single threaded performance is competitive with intel, I'd go head first for a Ryzen 3, which I assume should be able to, more or less, compete with i5 at a near i3 price.
Two cores is not enough and I don't need more than 4C/4T.
This might force intel to drop i5's prices.
That would be ideal, but I think Ryzen will be slower on single core unless you OC.

I sure hope Ryzen forces some Intel price drops! Only way it won't is if AMD doesn't beat Intel's current pricing. Intel can't afford to let AMD beat them on performance/price unless they want to lose a huge amount of market share.

Intel is fed up with desktop and has zealots that will buy them at inflated prices. I doubt they care. They are concerned with enterprise and mobile.

Intel is not going to throw away >50% of their revenue just because they finally got a little competition!

They're not, they simply aren't going to invest as heavily in it. Declining shipments and expensive nodes are the contributor. They know people are brainwashed and AMD can't supply enough chips to meet demand even if OEMs want to go in whole hog. They know they're gonna lose profit. That's why they sacked staff. But they're not gonna eat wafers to push something out (nor do they have a new architecture). They'll ride it out till 2019.

Investors should be mad. Intel itself are still laughing to the bank.

If they did that, people would start complaining, saying they never launch it.

A BIG tech youtuber is releasing a 'Special' build video on Monday 20th Feb, that they can not mention etc etc what is inside. I am 99.9% sure it is Ryzen.
They have Ryzen cpu's. They have admitted that but can not mention specifics etc because NDA.

I have been told that Vega will be launched a week after the Official Ryzen launch.

So watch out for plenty of videos coming out on Monday.......

He pisses me off for no ESD precautions, stop touching the contacts on the bottom side! He also needs to change shirts too, one sleeve has Intel on it.

A shower wouldn't hurt either. Looks like he slept in a doorway overnight before making the vid.
