AGON by AOC Announces U28G2XU2 Gaming Monitor

AGON by AOC - one of the world's leading gaming monitor and IT accessories brands - presents the new 28" (71 cm) gaming monitor AOC GAMING U28G2XU2, successor of the current U28G2XU. Thanks to the blazing-fast 144 Hz refresh rate and razor-sharp responsiveness of 1 ms GtG, the U28G2XU2 hits home with mainstream and hard-core gamers, whether on PC or on consoles.

For those who value both incredibly detailed visuals with ultra-high resolution, as well as high refresh rates to achieve the most fluid, smooth gaming experience with practically no ghosting, the U28G2XU2 combines the best of both worlds. Add the VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification to decode and reproduce HDR content with eye-catching visuals, and Adaptive-Sync technology to support VRR (variable refresh rate) implementations, the U28G2XU2 delivers sharp, smooth action with punchy visuals, without exhibiting artefacts such as tearing or stutter.
Ready for the future
The revamped U28G2XU2 with two HDMI 2.1 ports will replace the U28G2XU, AOC's first offering from last year combining 4K resolution and 144 Hz refresh rate, mainly aimed at the PC audience by using its DisplayPort connection to display 4K @ 144 Hz.
The new console generation and the increasing availability of latest gen graphic cards means that HDMI 2.1 connectivity is now getting ubiquitous among the gaming community, which is great news! The HDMI 2.1 technology offers a much higher bandwidth than HDMI 2.0, allowing it to transfer a 4K @ 144 Hz signal and above.

The AOC GAMING U28G2XU2 features two HDMI 2.1 ports, as well as two DisplayPort 1.4 ports, which means it can accept 4 different video sources in 4K resolution at high refresh rates. Thanks to the inclusion of the Picture-by-Picture and Picture-in-Picture modes, two of these sources can even be displayed simultaneously.

Now, the U28G2XU2 supports Xbox Series S and Series X, as well as the PlayStation 5 at its best: 120 Hz and 4K resolution, with HDR and VRR enabled. The HDMI 2.1 ports also support more, up to 144 Hz and 4K resolution if connected to a new GPU instead of the new consoles, for example.

Packed with features
Equipped with a fast IPS panel, the monitor offers wide 178/178° viewing angles, a wide colour gamut for rich, saturated colours, and a high colour accuracy. A peak brightness of 400 nits improves the visibility in bright ambient lighting conditions, and its high brightness in HDR is also proven by its VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification.

With an ideal size of 28" and an outstanding pixel density of 157 ppi, the U28G2XU2 also fits the desk of a home-office user/nightly gamer perfectly. The 4-port USB 3.2 hub makes high-speed data connection to plugged-in devices such as external drives possible. Equipped with a highly ergonomic stand with 130 mm height adjustment, and generous tilt, swivel ranges and 90° pivot capability, the U28G2XU2 can easily find its place in any user's setup. Gaming or working on the U28G2XU2 at night is also comfortable thanks to the built-in LowBlue mode and FlickerFree technology.

Further customisation options in the monitor's OSD settings include six game modes, features such as Dial Point (crosshair overlay), Game Colour (colour saturation) and Shadow Control so gamers can get the most out of their games and gain the upper edge against their opponents.

AOC GAMING U28G2XU2 will be available from July 2022 at a MSRP of £689.99.

Good to see 2nd gen 2160p high refresh rate monitors start to arrive, and this looks ... okay, I guess? At least the MSRP isn't astronomical. No USB-C and KVM functionality makes it a no-go for me though.

It's so ugly :D

They mention 144hz a couple times, but no mention of HDMI2.1 bandwith. Hopefully it's 48gbps or at least 40gbps but where there's no info I expect the worse :(

Is it a "2nd gen" newer panel though? Specs seem to align with the very common innolux panel used by several of the 4k 144hz monitors already out there.

No idea - and specs don't necessarily indicate anything either way. Still, even a 2nd gen effort with the same panel might be an improvement if that means better panel tuning and overdrive. Of course, a new genration of panels with significant improvements would be even better.

Wasn’t AGON supposed to be their premium sub-brand. I did a double-take when it looks the same as their legendary but cheap af 24G2 lol. I bought it at $175. Looks exactly the same.

Of course Gigabyte is one of the best in its class. The only real competitors are the Samsung Odissey or LG UltraGear Nano. I don't know what you mean Gigabyte has gimped HDMI ports they work perfect.

The gigabyte m28u has HDMI 2.1 limited to 24 gbps - requires DSC for 4k 120hz or chroma subsampling (the latter being the only option for consoles, like the key market for hdmi 2.1 in the first place).
