Phison Becomes the World's First NAND Controller Supplier to Achieve ISO SAE 21434 Certification
Phison Electronics, a leading innovator in NAND controllers and storage technologies, announced today that it has successfully achieved ISO/SAE 21434 automotive cybersecurity certification. As the automotive industry advances toward greater intelligence and digitalization, security requirements for in-vehicle systems have become increasingly crucial. Phison is now the world's first NAND controller independent supplier to receive this international standard for its NAND controllers, marking its automotive-grade solution development process as compliant with global automotive cybersecurity standards.
ISO/SAE 21434 is an international standard for in-vehicle system cybersecurity, providing a framework and guidance for automakers and suppliers to fortify protection against external hacking. As vehicle connectivity and automation technologies evolve, cybersecurity risks have risen, with unauthorized control and system vulnerabilities potentially posing significant threats to drivers and passengers. ISO/SAE 21434 certification allows suppliers to more effectively address these cybersecurity challenges, enhancing product security and reliability. Phison began preparing for ISO/SAE 21434 certification in 2023, completing the certification process in about a year. Initially, its automotive division conducted an internal self-assessment, followed by course training, gap analysis, and risk assessment workshops facilitated by external auditors. This included close to six months of process consultation and internal manual revisions, culminating in the final audit. The certification process also involved cross-departmental collaboration, as well as significant investment of personnel and financial resources.K.S. Pua, CEO of Phison, commented, "Achieving ISO/SAE 21434 certification is a significant milestone for Phison, reflecting the dedication of our team across departments. Although the process involved nearly a year of rigorous audits and consultations, it has substantially enhanced the cybersecurity of our automotive storage solutions' development and management processes. This certification not only highlights Phison's technical strength in automotive cybersecurity but also strengthens our competitive edge in promoting automotive storage solutions."
With the ISO/SAE 21434 certification, Phison's automotive-grade development processes now offer greater security and reliability, bolstering customer trust in its products. As the market increasingly prioritizes vehicle safety, this certification enhances Phison's global competitiveness in the automotive sector. Notably, the EU's UNECE R155 regulation requires vehicles and suppliers entering the European market to undergo cybersecurity evaluations, for which ISO/SAE 21434 certification qualifies as one of the essential Cybersecurity Management Systems (CSMS). Additionally, ISO 21434 certification has become a standard requirement for many automotive system suppliers, with leading global automotive storage and in-vehicle system customers showing strong interest in this certification.
As the world's first NAND controller independent supplier to achieve ISO/SAE 21434 certification, Phison will continue to deepen its expertise in automotive cybersecurity technology and lead industry development worldwide. Looking ahead, Phison will provide the market with safer and more efficient automotive storage solutions, driving the automotive industry toward a smarter, more secure future.
