Rockstar GTA 4 PS3 Patch Released

After smashing all-time entertainment records for day one and week one sales by dollar value, Rockstar Games has patched Grand Theft Auto IV today. The patch will hopefully prevent the game from further lock-ups and improve multiplayer performance by reducing server load. "Rockstar Games has released a GTA IV patch for Playstation 3 today that prevents Gamespy's servers from being overloaded and therefore reduces the impact on those servers that were causing the game to stutter and lock up," The company also added: "We continue to monitor the performance of the game both on and offline and will provide further updates as necessary. We want to assure everyone that, together with our hardware partners, we continue to strive to give our fans the best possible interactive entertainment experiences possible." The update will be offered once the player is online and try to start the game.

i'm running the 360 version and i've had no freezing so i cant see why a patch would be necessary.

the main focus of the PS3 patch was to fix the multiplayer issue as the amount of traffic between server and console was making online play difficult at best.

anyone miss the days though when a game shipped finished, it didnt need patching cause it was tested for 6 or more months before it was released to console, why can't they do it now. I dont keep my console hooked up to the net, i play online on my PC and i absolutly hate the fact they can't shipped a non bugged console game.

i do miss those days too, most games that i have or played havent been patched, but GTA4 was put back buy 6-7 months, so you would expect most bugs to have been sorted and the game tested to death.

but i guess there are always gonna be something you miss.

agreed but when you played Goldeneye 64 or Mario Cart, ect from the late Goldenage did you really notice them, sure the later N64 games for the sake of argument would lag, without the expansion pack, but it was tested very througly back then to ensure it was playable and any bugs in the code did not affect gameplay. Now though games can lag in SP but its ok, cause next week its another patch. Isnt this the argument so many used a few years ago to say the console was better. I want a playable fun game when a game goes Gold, not a game that is 100% good to go in 2 years after release

I don't have any problems with the multiplayer nor my game freezing. However I've heard people from both sides equally complain about the freezing issue.

Just because you have never experienced the problem doesn't mean it doesn't exsist. I never experienced the PS3 freezing issue, but I know it exsist. Take Two has admitted it is a problem on both consoles.
