ATI Catalyst 8.10 Released, Adds Manual Fan Speed Control

By some coincidence, right after NVIDIA's 178.24 WHQL driver release, ATI also published new Catalyst version 8.10. There're two major features that come with the new Catalyst 8.10 and they are:
  • Catalyst Control Center Fan speed control - this release of the ATI software driver introduces the ability for users to control the speed of the GPU fan when running in accelerated graphics.
  • Force Component Video Detection - this feature allows users the option in Catalyst Control Center to force Component Video detection in the Display Options aspect. By selecting this option user are able to adjust the Component Video property settings (without a device being physically attached) allowing user to change format and frequency to a desired value. The selected values will be applied to the display once a component video display device get connected. The feature is applicable for all AMD products supporting Component Video.
There are no indications of any performance improvements with Catalyst 8.10.

This came as a little bit of a surprise. A pleasant one of course. It makes sense though since they release new drivers every month...I just wasn't expecting them today I guess. Anyway, can't wait to try these out! Thanks malware! :toast:

How exactly doesn't anything past 8.7 work with a modified bios? Would it hurt trying new drivers? If it doesn't work, I'm sure we can find a way around it.:)

When Windows loads up your screen stays black, all the new drivers do it...No way to get past it other to use CCC to overclock. I like my low voltage 2D speed thank you very much...

Are you using modified clock settings?

When I flashed my 4870 to a TOP bios with the clocks set in RBE to 820/1000, I couldn't get clock switching on any driver past 8.7 (it got stuck in 2d mode, 500/1000)

but I set it to default clocks for the TOP bios, and overclocked it in CCC and it fixed it.

Might be nowhere near your problem, but I couldn't find any documentation on my problem so I figured I'd throw that out there for you guys.

I have had black screen issues with ati drivers before. Usually what seems to fix it is some manual resets of my system using the reset button a few times, though the problems are probablly unrelated.

The fan control doesn't seem to work for the 3800 series [i think], since i don't see the option on CCC for my 3780 x2 and 3870.

-can anyone confirm this?

ok, keen to try these 8.10's took me 2 hours to download the betas yesterday from mega upload  im reluctant to install them though as my crossfire setup is running pretty smooth although i do hear of improvments of upto 20% fps in some games

basically, if i upgrade to these will i have to go through the ball ache of taking one card out, then booting up, installing drivers, restarting, installing second card, enabling crossfire, rebooting again etc etc ?
