New 9600GSO...again? WTH? I don't get it why nvidia made this new 9600GSO, the old one is already good enough...unless they wanted it slower

I'm pretty sure this will be slower than the 9600gso already and it would be a horrible replacement for those who wanted a card that could do cuda/physx apps better as this card has half the shaders

I was even told by someone at XFX that they wouldn't really replace the 8800GS or 9600GSO with this card, because the tech guys said that it would more than likely be slower

I actually use a 8800GS in my system for physx and cuda apps and if it broke there is no way I would take this card as a replacement if it broke

This has probably been launched due to the current (96sp) 9600GSO (which we all know as a renamed 8800GS) being nearly as fast as the 9600GT. I assume Nvidia obviously want something that will show a clear performance difference.

If they hadn't of renamed the 8800GS then this wouldn't be an issue.

nVidia's naming scheme is really starting to piss me off.

If it isn't two different cards with the same name, it is one card with two different names.:shadedshu

Yeah, the whole renaming/rebadging crap is really getting annoying. The sad part is they could have just stuck with the 8000 series from the beginning and everything would have been fine, and the 8000 series cards would still be competing very nicely.

The 8800GS would have competed nicely with the HD4670 without the need for a name change.

The G92 8800GTS would have come pretty close to competing with the HD4850, and the 9800GTX should have been called the 8900GTX IMO, and it would definitely compete with the HD4850.

If they wanted to do die shrinks they could have brought out the 8850GS, 8850GTS, and 8950GTX. Throw an 8850GT in there to fill the gap between the 8850GS and 8850GTS and they would have been set, or just add the + to the names of the die shrunk cards also.

They they could have released the GTX 260 and 280 as the 9800GTS and 9800GTX and made it less confusing. Then wait for the next generation of cards to completely start a new naming scheme.
And to add to that, the 9600GT would have been a wonderful 8700GT.

this card SHOULD HAVE BEEN the 9600GSO in the first place

it is becoming even more ridiculous now

when this card is distributed its going to be a problem, they were on a renaming spree before but now there are 2 different cards with the same name, wait didn't the do that with the 8800GTS also

AT LEAST they can't be worst than this

i can't understand what nvidia thnking with this, they should make the card better not worse.

yet another stupid attemp from nvidia to make customer confuse (and stealing their money) by selling deffective 9600gt core:shadedshu.
