Hackers create "RFID-zapper"

With the introduction of RFID many people felt their privacy was at stake. Now RFID pops up in more and more things. Luckily there are always people who destroy what others make. Using a cheap disposable camera the german Chaos Computer Club created a small EMP like device to toast RFID tags.
If you're interested in how exactly it works or if you want to build a huge evil machine on the moon to destroy all RFID technology on earth yourself I suggest you check it out.

if im correct, i think they are inside all products in a store, so when you go through the exit, the security will beep if they are not deactivated before exiting, this could be used for theft, deactivate, and then leave without opening the package.

This may lead to store RFID alarms being useless to the criminal with a handy EMP camera? ;)

RFID tags arent just used for that though. They are also used to track items and were intended to be used as a "Smart chip". They would be a "smart chip" so say a load of cargo would be going the wrong way the driver would be alerted. Things like that they would be used for.

Oh yea forgot to add. THey also have a thing out now called SFIDs? They are the same thing, but on software. I wonder if the same thing will destroy them since they arent stickers or anything, but embedded somewhere on the cd.

The privacy issue is not about criminals stealing stuff.

If some one has an RFID scanner they could walk up to your garbbage can and recycle bin and find out everything you have purchased/used in the past few weeks. RFID tags are in everything and they say what the product is. If you want to find out about people that would be the place to look.

So, it's for anonymity.
