First CPUs coming to socket AM2

The launch of the AM2 socket is drawing closer, and there is some information about the initial CPU speeds which will be available:

AMD Athlon 64 4000+, 512kb cache
AMD Athlon 64 3800+, 512kb cache
AMD Athlon 64 3500+, 512kb cache
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ with 2x512kb cache (90nm, Windsor core)
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ with 2x512kb cache (90nm, Windsor core)
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ with 2x512kb cache (90nm, Windsor core)
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ with 2x1MB cache, running at 2x 2.6GHz
AMD Athlon 64 FX-62 with 1MB cache, running at 2.8GHz
AMD Sempron 3000+ (1,6 GHz), 256kb cache, (90nm Manila core)
AMD Sempron 3200+ (1,8 GHz), 256kb cache, (90nm Manila core)
AMD Sempron 3400+ (2,0 GHz), 256kb cache, (90nm Manila core)
AMD Sempron 3500+ (2,2 GHz), 256kb cache, (90nm Manila core)

And if Intel brings out Celerons which top these speeds, then AMD will release the Sempron 3600+ (2.4 GHz) and Sempron 3800+ (2.6 GHz), to fight back.

so, sempron 939 will be out at last? or will it all move to AM2?

these semprons are for the AM2 socket. I heard somewere too, that semprons are to come to s939 some time...no idea if thats still acurate.

thats a lot of 512k cache only , now there has to be some perfromance difference right VS the 939 sockets , cause if there isnt i have a 4000 with 1mb cache right now i would eb stupid to get a 4000 with 512cache , anyone ?? ;)

I was curious with that too.
Is there a signifigant difference between these and the 939s?

true...we will have to see how big of an improvement the 667MHz DDR2 is. Luckly there should be (or already is...I don't deal with DDR2 much) some DDR2-667 sticks with tight timings out there.

Sooo...FX-62 will be single core? Thought all FX models were to be dual core after the FX-60

It's dual core but the two cores have to share a single 1MB cache. The X2 5000 has a dedicated 1MB cache for each core but is a slower clock. It would be better to get the 5000 and OC it.

I'm pretty sure they're using RDRAM, unless they just felt like blowing all their money on the rights to it just for the hell of it.

RDRAM? thats been dead for a while, the AM2 uses DDR2, thats common knowledge. AMD just waited til DDR2 was on equal standing with DDR1 price wise, before making a move.

(value DDR2 is now cheaper than value DDR in many brands)

i think they invested in rambus for research, not necessarily to use RDRAM.....hasn't DDR2 been confirmed as supported with the new cores?
