What Melvis is trying to say is currently the AMD AM3+ socket has a longer lifespan than the Intel 1155 socket since Intel have stated with Haswell release, they will be changing the socket.
Who knows when AMD will be changing their socket as there has been no announcement.
So in Melvis opinion, getting the AMD based CPU with a better GPU and upgrading the AMD CPU at a later date will allow you to have a longer lasting system.
But then again, we also have to put into perspective of what current AMD CPU is the equivalent to the 2500K.
If there is nothing which currently matches the 2500k in games and seems to be far off with potential release and pricing is higher, then no point going for and AMD based system.
Overall I am happy with my 2500k and 7870 system which runs games at 1080p very well.
