The time has come. We're finally allowed to talk about Radeon VII performance numbers. The company's new flagship graphics card is the world's first to be made using a 7 nanometer production process. Also, it has the largest VRAM size of any card below $1000: 16 GB.

as amd user.... i wouldn't buy it ... too much hype from red team...

Well... first, ty W1z... :)

So it seems that its:

* 14% slower (average) than a 2080 at 1440p (its bread and butter res - its more lower for those High Hz people). 10% slower at 4K UHD.
* 90W average power difference between it and a 2080 (peak is a whopping 125W difference in the power virus app - W1z, stop using it... LOL).
* 7db louder on load than 2080 and 4db louder than a 2080 Ti.

Well, again, its another choice in the market which is good for everyone. A compelling choice... not so much at all. A used 1080Ti is as fast(4K UHD)/faster (FHD/QHD) uses less power, and cheaper. The sound issue can be mitigated by AICs, but everything else tough to swallow for most. I am surprised and quite disappointed that it is so much slower than a 2080.

What a huge failure, but i don't understand that inconsistency in games, could it be drivers are still a bit fckd up?

A decent card for hardcore AMD fans who want to get top performance. TDP for such cards doesn't really matter since you're better served with water cooling anyways.

The only issue is that NVIDIA has leeway in regard to lowering prices (NVIDIA doesn't use super expensive HBM2) and releasing Turing on 7nm both of which could spell a disaster for AMD but given the rumors about this card availability I'm not really concerned.

I'm not sure about that. This is basically Vega 64 on steroids - it's the same architecture with better specs.

Furmark is just a free data point for curious readers, it has no influence on the outcome of the review

"Peak (Gaming)" is the highest single value measured during gaming (Metro Last Light), "Average (Gaming)" is the average of these values

Really is a compute card rather than a game card. Swing & a miss in the consumer space, that build quality is really too high for consumer use and driving up price.

Yep, I get it, not worried about the outcome, but the perception that its values mean much of anything is being validated by its use. Both NV and AMD agree with it being a power virus and should not be used for testing.. curiosity or not. :)

This card would have been a good purchase if they released it exactly one year ago.

Day late and a dollar short for performance and pricing on this one.

I found the performance per dollar charts really amusing lol.

AMD has just managed to build the second worst value consumer card ever, beaten only by the 2080Ti!

What a joke, Lisa Su lost all respect from me for allowing this product to be released. I was considering a 3700x, but screw it. 9700k and rtx 2080 is probably my next build.

really disappointing, 30 fps slower across the board at 1080p almost... and using 100 watts more... wow so pathetic...

Oh hey, look, another disappointing release. For me, not so much the performance, although as mentioned GCN is just plain awful these days. If you NEED Vulkan or DX12 for your card to shine, that's not a great option. But that noise level..... On a 3 fan design. I think AMD should carve off Radeon to Intel entirely. I'm still looking forward to Ryzen 2 though.... C'mon AMD, rooting for success there!

...and... OOS in most places with many countries not even able to list it... that was fast

So it trade blows with RTX 2070 and much slower than 2080 even without factoring in ray tracing or DLSS . AMD made RTX cards look so cheap!

And at OcUK - it's £650 - £800.

Another dissapointment. 1TB/s bandwidth and it's not even better than my 1080Ti (stock vs stock) at my resolution (3440x1440)....
Excellent review as always!
We all know AMD needs a complete GPU Re-Design. Until this happens, this is what they can offer. Though I do believe the price is at least $150 too high, despite the 3 x AAA Games included.

I said it's not going to beat the 1080Ti, and well... there you go.

Great for compute workloads, I bet if the crypto market hadn't crashed this card would have ruled them all.

But crypto is not gamers, and I'm not buying crypto hardware when all I want is cheaper faster performance.

its not. they only had a few handful to sell per store anyway. this is what AMD will tell shareholders, we sold out within minutes! but France only had 12 units to sell! LOL what a joke.
