Nice haul

On way home from cycle shop. Spotted a skip so had a look and found all this stuff in it, got to go back as there is a socket A board in there too with some athlon CPU in it.

Not sure what the PCIe video card is, the AM3 CPU is a 8320 black edition.

The PCIe card looks like an HD 6670.
It'll be a slot powered thing most likely, the HD6000 series was about reducing manufacturing cost and power consumption. Generally not as fast as the HD5000 series but perfectly decent and reliable in their day. I retired an HD 6850 alarmingly recently from an old box driving a CNC mill in the modeshop at work earlier this year.
 
Lucky for some, all I see in skips are carpet and broken mountain bikes.
 
Here's the socket A board. Sure i used to have one of these.

I need to leave this stuff for today to make sure it is all dry, As you can see there is a tad of water on some of it. Will be having a play with it tomorrow though

The sparkle GPU looks like and reminds me of an NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440
 
That's stealing! I've now informed the authorities so you should be getting jackbooted heavy banging on your front door any time now.

Actually, once put in a trash bin that is ready for pick up by the haulers, it is not stealing. This is how the authorities can go through your trash searching for criminal evidence without a warrant.

That said, you have to wonder why it is in the trash in the first place. I would have to assume it no longer works, or is so old and obsolete, it does not support current tasks. So in that case, I say good to you for keeping it out of the landfills and hope that when you decide to discard it, you take it all to a proper recycling center. There is one here in my area that actually pays you for aluminum, steel and precious metals content. Now it is only pennies per pound, but at least they dispose of it the proper, environmentally safe way.

I am not a tree hugger, btw. But I do like trees and want them to still be around for when my grandkids have their own kids.
 
I just cannot go past a skip without having a look, and we all know full well we would take the stuff i found.

In the UK, its not really a problem, most people would not object to someone taking stuff from their skip, some do and it is their right.

I vaguely remember some UK law applied to skips.
If the skip is in the road or on public land, it's a free-for-all, because everything in it counts as "abandoned in the public domain".
If the skip is on private land (for example the car park of a supermarket) then technically everything in it still belongs to the landowner, though then it's a civil matter and the chances of them identifying you, filing a suit against you in the small claims court, and being able to prove that the loss of those items were financially damaging are basically nil. You've got more chance of winning the lottery two weeks in a row...

The skip was on someone's drive, i did not have to go onto their drive to access it though, could do so from the public footpath. Even so was a bit naughty. In Hull people don't tend to mind really as i have done it a lot of times and rarely been told to bugger orf.

If I could get a better look at the numbers on that Socket A, myself or Mr. Scott can tell you what it is if you don't know yourself already.

As for the 8320, it's probrably a good one - Ever want to go subzero and see what it can really do, let me know - I can help. ;)
 
i remember driving down Hessle road years ago i stuck me hand out at the traffic lights to turn right and when i pulled me hand in someone had nicked me watch :) .
 
yea i went up to gipseyville to tell the police and thay beat me up and stole me wallet :) . hull is a tough old city bud.

No stickers on the back at all, only one is the one you can see in the pic.

That’s the exact Athlon I had back then. 1333 MHz with a 133 MHz FSB. The second best thunderbird ever. It was one of the gaming kings, Intel only had overpriced P4s back then with expensive Rambus ram.

btw HD 6000 series was a bit faster than HD 5000 series, the 6970 and 6950 had a newer architecture that improved performance.

Not the sticker, the etching on the core's surface - Those numbers.
We can tell you what you've got if a clear picture of what's there could be had.

Still too much of the old TIM on the core and it's a bit blurry to really make out the numbers.

EDIT: I'm blind :kookoo: - The sticker does say it's a T-Bird so it's an Athlon but still can't tell the exact model it is.

Talking about the series as a whole, reviews say otherwise - Not just here at TPU, but Anand and THG too.
That's because the 6000-series had fewer transistors and fewer shaders than their 5000-series counterparts. AMD openly said that the point of the 6000-series was to achieve similar performance at much lower cost, not to make a performance leap. Even AMD's own presentation had the 6000-series trailing the 5000-series, at least for the launch models.

The 6670 appears to have been an anomaly in that it was the only bit of silicon (Turks, 480 shaders) in the 6000-series stack which had more transistors and more shaders than the its 5000-series counterpart (Redwood, 400 shaders in the 5670). I guess the competition from Nvidia was too strong at the $100 mark to stick to that plan, as the 5670 was getting absolutely annihilated by the new GTS 450 and Nvidia's G92 refused to die at $80 (Remember the 8800GTS-512 that was rebranded the 9800GT that was rebranded to the GTS250? That was an absoulutely ridiculous bargain for most of its market life)

6000 series as well as 5000 series were both made to be efficient, that’s nothing exclusive to 6000 series. 6000 series introduced VLIW4 arch with 6970 and 6950 those have bigger chips and more transistors, so your memory is 100% wrong, go check old reviews if you want, the 6970 is 20% faster than the 5970 and eats more power as well. Generally there’s no point in regressing performance, the only way is forward, not backwards or standstill.
