Testing please: GPU-Z Resizable BAR Support Report

Good evening,

here is beer :toast: but without alcohol :(:

It's ON

NOT QUITE

@W1zzard
Maybe a third Resizable BAR status e.g. "system ready" on GPU-Z's front section, would curb certain expectations. ;)

Strange, I have enabled Rezisable BAR in BIOS, but GPUZ reports it not being enabled:

Can you provide any other information? Such as system specifications?
Ah, I was distracted, forgot to add.
Motherboard - MSI PRO Z690-A DDR4
CPU - Intel i5 12600K
GPU - MSI GeForce RTX™ 3070 GAMING X TRIO
RAM (maybe irrelevant) - 2x16GB 3600Mhz - Kingston KF436C16RB1K2/32

OS - Windows 11
latest nVidia drivers - 512.59
All the settings including just enabling Resizable BAR should be correct, like disabled CSM and others.

Edit: Ah, found a solution - updated VBIOS with MSI Center from version 146 to 147 and now it seems to be working.
The BIOS version that's reported in GPUZ did not change at all which is strange though.

Lost of Ampere cards need a BIOS update to support Resizable BAR.

I looked into this and it's normal. Unfortunately NVIDIA isn't increasing the version number for ReBAR support, which is unfortunate, otherwise GPU-Z could tell you "Update your VBIOS" on the Resizable BAR requirements page

There are ways to acutally enable this soft lockout at the driver level

Shouldnt GPU-Z actually be checking properly instead of going through a whitelist

GPU-Z has to rely on w1zz finding where and how to check its enabled, and support has varied over time - like with BIOS updates that dont change version numbers

hi, just enabled the resise bar on bios but in gpu-z its says no gpu hardware support and unsupported gpu for me. My question is, is it working or not? i should turn off the resise bar on bios or not?

Yeah RX580 doesn't support ReBAR it's just RX5000/6000/7000 series GPU's that do so yeah tuning it off is probably a reasonable thing to do although it shouldn't have any problems leaving it as is

so i can't take any advantages from resize bar is it?

No, you cannot. It doesn't matter for this graphics card anyway. However, something caught my eye: it says that your BAR0 size is 8192 MB. If this is accurate, this means that you are already probably getting whatever benefit you could get from Resizable BAR anyway.

My X99 motherboard doesn't support it, but my GPU does, and this is what I get:

The only way to double check is to look in the device manager if your GPU's memory has 8 GB physically assigned.

This means Resizable BAR is enabled on your card. Looks like AMD extended support to older GPUs as well

The "GPU Hardware Support" and "Driver Support" fields are based on my own data, and apparently incorrect for your case. Will fix in next release

Would be interesting see if gaming performance changes between BIOS enabled and disabled

i dont understand you fully but yeah my gpu has 8gb already

i think best way to learnt that is testing but idk how can i bechmark performance, any app suggest?

Suggest the following benchmarks:
* Ungine Valley, Unigine Superposition.
* 3DMark.

Test at least 4-5 times each with Resizable BAR ON and Off and see if a visible change shows. :)

Screenshot (49).png

this what mine looks like everything supported enabled except gpu

So well, just made some test and there is my results

SUPERPOSITION BENCHMARK - 1080P Medium

Resizable Bar Enabled
Min 42.10, Avg 49.57, Max 61.55
Min 42.06, Avg 49.70, Max 62.63
Min 41.98, Avg 49.51, Max 61.55
Min 42.13, Avg 49.65, Max 62.02
Min 41.30, Avg 49.31, Max 61.50

Total Avg.
Min 42.06, Avg 49.57, Max 61.55

Resizable Bar Disabled
Min 33.08, Avg 49.52, Max 61.52
Min 41.33, Avg 49.17, Max 60.97
Min 41.38, Avg 49.12, Max 61.69
Min 40.11, Avg 49.16, Max 61.14
Min 41.63, Avg 49.02, Max 60.94

Total Avg.
Min 41.33, Avg 49.16, Max 61.14

so i think i cant use resize bar.

That's freakin awesome of them, no VBIOS updates required

rebar is not a magic bullet that suddenly makes your FPS higher in every benchmark, there are situations it does absolutely nothing

You need to enable in the AMD control panel

But you also need the rest of your system setup for this, a UEFI installed OS with CSM disabled in the BIOS, above 4G decoding and REBAR enabled (also in the bios)

because someone came in with a relevant question - w1zz himself answered.

* Any topic is still a topic even after years pass. :)

* We probably do not need or want 5-6-12 threads on Resizable Bar. :)
Just 1-2 is better.

So how can i know i cant use the resible bar or not?

It's an old thread, but about GPU-Z debugging. Someone found a potential bug, asked, w1zz replied - this isn't a users help thread it's an official one.
