Microsoft at its IFA Berlin briefing named its next major update to Windows 10, dubbed October 2018 Update, bound for the date of its namesake. Technically Windows 10 version 1809, the operating system will introduce a few user-interface improvements such as Dark Mode, and a cloud-linked clipboard that lets you copy things between your various Windows devices linked to the same Microsoft account. Microsoft will also introduce improvements to Game Mode and add functionality to Game Bar, including some hardware monitoring features. This would also present Redmond with the opportunity to introduce a new version of Edge. Microsoft could sign off the release by late-September, and start distribution sometime in October.

I wonder if it will actually release in the month it's named after this time (I mean the internal code name 1809, 1703, etc). Heh. They never seem to actually line up with release dates.. but build dates.

Great.

I wonder what they will break this time

Additional spyware, or will they just re-enable the existing spyware?

Interesting. For the "spyware" thingy, I think MS will give users options like what they did with Update 1803. Hopefully.

I wonder how long this bastard will take to install.... I'm sure it will pick the most inconvenient time to do so, of course.....

Anybody need some extra salt?

:lovetpu:

I'm on insider build 17751.1 & the build numbers are always broken, they don't align with anything IMO.

Sorry, but 1809 means 2018, September (09). Why October???

Anyways, I really hope they will fix the sound issues with Creative X-Fi Ti drivers which are no longer working properly after the last update.

Because 1803 was launched in April.

There is no correlation, beyond maybe Microsoft signing the RTM on the preceding month, signifying the version.

I'll keep an open mind for this, I had no problems with the last couple of big Windows updates so I am not concerned

Definitely upping their snoop game for the NSA. That is what I first thought of when I read cloud clipboard.

I just built my win10 gaming rig and that is all it is going to do; gaming.

I'm keeping my old rig for everything else.

Additional spyware, or will they just re-enable the existing spyware?
Both.

They'll also make things more "User Friendly" too (NSA?) and they'll even be sure to throw in a vid of the best way to grab your ankles whenever you use the new clipboard.

Both!

Hmm...

Minimal Spyware* reports only necessary user data to Microsoft**
Normal Spyware* reports additional user data, such as data about installed programs and browsing habits to Microsoft**
Enhanced Spyware* reports maximal user data, up to and including personal hygiene habits to Microsoft**

*User selected settings may or may not be applied. Microsoft reserves the right to control user telemetry settings
**Microsoft reserves the right to share telemetry data with other entities

just be sure you use all the fingerprint face and voice security features . you can put full trust in that data staying with you [not] and talk nice to cortana , alexa and all too wile your Samsung tv watches you by the way your smart frig says your out of dairy fresh milk and wonder bread

Heh, had my boot drive fail on me just over a week ago, and bought a copy of Windows 10 Pro off of Kinguin. After spending an hour on the phone between Microsoft and Kinguin rep I finally had a validated copy of Windows. After farting around, for hours and hours, I still can't map a network drive, and I've gone through everything more than once, setting and resetting. Netbios over TCP/IP, services settings, registry. Good God! How do you fuck up basic networking?

FIX THE BROADCOM WIFI ISSUES MS!!! ploxxxx. Sick of needing to reboot my tablet over and over some times. Sucks when I just wanna watch some youtube in the bath on my rugged waterproof win10 tablet.

Yeah really wanted a toughbook/pad, but birthday budget was 600 so.

Not an educated opinion, but I'm not convinced it'd be that much better.

at least they have proper driver support. This "Vanquisher" brand seems to be one of those amazon brands that have very little presence.
