Microsoft Unveils Windows 10 October 2018 Update

hopefully this wont break anything else or make things worse for anyone.

Although I will admit to not having a single issue with the last several updates, my time is probably coming, and then I'm gonna be really pissed off when everything that has been working flawlessly for quite some time now suddenly stops working simply due to a single update....

FYI, I run a very lean & clean system, with all unnecessary (as determined by ME) background sh**t turned off, and only minimal additional software, drivers etc :)

I just purchased a copy of TC4Shell (exploring based archiving).. I get the feeling that might screw up, if this dark mode makes any significant changes to explorer. It's needed performance tweaks in the past. But hopefully it'll be OK.

I wonder how long this bastard will take to install.... I'm sure it will pick the most inconvenient time to do so, of course.....
I had a test build of it install in less than 10 minutes and that's with VirtualBox virtual disk overhead hosted on a system with an SSD.

Not an educated opinion, but I'm not convinced it'd be that much better.

Having worked on refurbishing toughbooks, I am. The things they can survive is unreal.

Both!

Hmm...

Minimal Spyware* reports only necessary user data to Microsoft**
Normal Spyware* reports additional user data, such as data about installed programs and browsing habits to Microsoft**
Enhanced Spyware* reports maximal user data, up to and including personal hygiene habits to Microsoft**

*User selected settings may or may not be applied. Microsoft reserves the right to control user telemetry settings
**Microsoft reserves the right to share telemetry data with other entities

its all bullshit.. all of it...

(edit)

OK, so do we have a complete list with all MAJOR changes from this Service Pack?

One more step in making Windows more like a Mac, where even the stupid can use a computer.

On the plus side, it leaves space open for some small developer to fill. Sometimes Windows adds so many features that outside tools feel a bit unnecessary. For example, Windows Defender. Or even the basic Zip file reader in Explorer.

Im getting more and more people going back to Windows 7 with this bullshit from Microsoft and Windows 10. The last big update 1803 was a mess! so many computers/printers stopped working correctly, goood business for me but its a nightmare and explaining to clients, umm well its Windows 10 is your issue, but its the latest and greatest right? they say, sorry to tell you but its crap, go back to 7 it doesnt have these issues.

Remember how, in years past, everyone said it was best not to do a "dirty upgrade" from one OS to another, and instead wipe the drive and install a fresh copy? W10 is basically dirty upgrading itself twice a year... it's no surprise it breaks constantly. It seems like an unforgivably huge oversight in the design...

I'm starting to think permanently ditching Windows was actually better then i thought ...

I tend to do fresh installs myself, but each upgrade replaces the Windows folder.. so it's not exactly a "dirty" upgrade.
