If I remember correctly during our up to 5am trouble shoot , the CRT monitor that only does 1024x724 also same exact symptoms were happening (!, out of range,no picture)I say RMA the card ...maybe the card isn't the issue but the RMA is free and if he can eliminate the card then he can purchase the monitor if that is really the issue.

Yeah, but come to find out, the problems with the VGA were only happening on that instance of Vista. After a fresh Vista install the VGA.....

.....wait a minute, I haven't tried the VGA on the fresh install. I'm going to switch hard-drives again, test out the VGA, and report back. Thanks for reminding me about that.

In the mean time I'll be selling anything and everything I find laying around my house, on eBay to raise money.

set the res to 1024x768 before you start in the other OS.

I don't remember from previous posts, but is there any way you can test a different monitor that runs at 1920x1080? Buying one locally, testing it with your HD4870X2, then returning it?

Same with a video card. Buy it, test it with your E2400HD, and then return it.

In the past I've done this at a local Best Buy. There is no restocking fee for video cards or LCD monitors. Just make sure you return it within 14 days.

(Ok, I reread your posts, and see that you've tried the above things. Possibly keep looking. There may be some computer place that will allow you some leeway for in-house testing of a different video card/monitor for a fee.)

Either way I'm guessing currently available funds is an issue...

I'm definitely going to try to get my hands on another graphics card and monitor to test. The problem is, I'm not sure if that will be possible. I'm going to call around and see what I can gather.

Tomorrow I want to buy another monitor from Best Buy to test with my setup. The problem is, won't they try to charge me a restocking fee when I return it?

Update!

I'm reporting live from a Dell S2409W 24" monitor. I finally went to Best Buy and got another monitor so I could further troubleshoot my issue. I am having the same exact problem with this monitor. This was kind of expected, as I did not think that my monitor was to blame. I just wanted to make sure of it. Aside from the "Out of Range" error, I'm also having the same issues with odd login screen resolutions and dim brightness after logging in (until I run a game, at which point the brightness switches to the correct/normal level but goes dim when I reboot again.) Also, the yellow (!) in the Device Manager has returned since I hooked up the Dell monitor. All of these issues, except the "Out of Range" error which is constant, seem to arise when a DVI connection is changed. The drivers throw a fit and the yellow (!) pops up in the Device Manager.

Anyhow, back to the original problem; the "Out of Range" error that occurs anytime I try to game full screen at 1920x1080 in DX10. I've eliminated a couple of possibilities...

1) My BenQ E2400HD monitor is not to blame.

2) My current install of Vista is not to blame.

The next thing I'm going to do is install an instance of Windows 7 (I've been beta testing it for quite some time now) and see if the issue comes up. Do you folks have any other suggestions?

Guess what? The problem doesn't happen in Windows 7 32bit. I'm going to do a fresh install of Vista 32bit right now and see if the problem happens.

Is that with the default Win 7 driver? Because correct me if I am wrong, I beleive they are basically just 8.11's

It is with the Vista 32-bit 9.1 drivers, so I'm pretty sure my card won't exhibit the error under Vista 32. So basically the 64-bit drivers are the problem. What kind of performance hit am I going to take by using Vista 32 instead of Vista 64?

Something very odd about the 64 and 32 bit issue! I don't know what the issue is but it sure shouldn't be! Glad your getting closer to a resolution!

People are telling me that I really shouldn't switch to Vista 32 and I should just wait for the issue to be fixed. What do you guys think?
