AMD's Bulldozer breaks CPU Frequency world record!!

This chip sounds more like tank than a bulldozer, crazy voltages.
If they can hit 5ghz on air easy, then we may get a nice little price war.
If the clock for clock performance is there, sure. :toast:

Only time will tell and lord knows they have a lot of catching up to do there.

interesting... in this picture there, top left corner, seems to be the first visible bare die of a BD! Judging by the size, it should be it! :D

Man, this thing definetly seems to fit in its role as "Monolithic Architecture"!
I wonder how AMD was able to get so decent yields with so big chips!;)

Even if they aren't quite on the same level as Intel with this release, it sounds like it will be a big step in the right direction.
Plus, 2012 is supposed to bring the next version of the bulldozer architecture. So this could just be a tip of the iceberg.

I do not think that is a bare die, that is a smaller IHS. A birdie told me so.

Thanks for the info. I wish I had birdies outside my window that knew info like this. :toast:

Interesting... but that certainly isnt stock, that im sure off!:D
The original IHS rubber was cut off, for certain, and something else, was frankensteined on top:p

They probably didn't :D

According to the prices, they did ;)

According to the prices, they did

There was some info about AMD paying GF for a good die and not the whole wafer, could that be the cause for the lower prices?

I wonder why Intel isnt doing the same - sponsoring a WR of their own.

We still know nothing about performance. :(

Sounds awesome:rockout:, though i don't care much for getting heavy overclocks. I want to see how they perform under regular loads.

Also, my Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 board arrived.:)

though i don't care much for getting heavy overclocks.

The problem with that thinking, 2nd Gen Sandy core iX chips most hit 4.5+, so the presumed "5Ghz+ on Air" wouldn't be heavy overclocking.

excellent work there, cant believe it booted into windows with av running at 8.2ghz. also the 5ghz clock looked like a stock heatsink. cant wait for these to be released...

I define that as a heavy overclock, 4Ghz has become so common place that it's not thought of anymore.

I usually keep my chips at a modest 3.6Ghz or so which to me is fast enough.

Because their cold bug wouldn't allow them to achieve these results.

i for one am glad i already have water, new cpu along with a new cpu block im thinking............scratch that new build LOL!

LOL! Yeah, more or less. That and the inherent multi limit on SB.

Werent there some gulftown's that hit 7Ghz+ benchable?

Yes, there were.

Off topic, but congrats on the new board. Mine is in shipping.

interesting to see how much performance youd get out of 5ghz vs a 5ghz sandy

Thanks!!:)

I not sure if i should get it hooked up with my current 1055T and for wait for the FX chips to come out. Or just leave it uninstalled until the FX chips are out.

Offtopic again, sorry. lol

So according to Anandtech.com, the tech demo had the following:

sub-$100 Antec Kuhler closed water loop, AMD FX 8-core = 4.8 GHz (no mention of voltage change).
Phase Change cooling at 1.632V = 5.894 GHz

Then the world record thing. One of the overclockers mentioned that he has had a BD up to 2.43 volts and Phenoms use to crap out at around 1.9 Volts. So volt change tolerance is better.

The first one is the most interesting and the AMD rep sad aggressive air cooling should do the same.
