GTX 1080Ti Power management Modes are stupid and broken

When I was getting a system, 6700K just got released. And it was unobtainable and only as preorder at stupid prices. Besides, it would hardly be an upgrade to Core i7 920 that I had before. 5820K was known to clock well and had 2 more physical cores.

And lastly, everyone super smart that I'm dumb expecting GPU to work full tilt when it doesn't need to, but urge me to fix the "CPU bottleneck" by getting a faster CPU. What CPU bottleneck when GPU is pumping out 144fps consistently lol? You lot are literally contradicting yourself.

"Gpu is pumping out 144fps consistently lol?"
And the cpu is pumping out 144fps? If it isn't you serve no purpose, end this thread as the problem has been solved. If it hasn't take advice and try everything contributed.

And for the smart arse telling me the 6-7 series wasn't out, why didn't you take a look at this?
https://ark.intel.com/products/80807/Intel-Core-i7-4790K-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-4_40-GHz
The 4790k does 144fps much easier, like i said the 5820k wasn't the best choice
i7 920? Why didn't you grab a x5650 and overclock it? The x5650 is close to the 5820k and you could've got the 4790k for your main rig.

With Fast-sync all frames are rendered and an additional frame buffer which holds most recent rendered frames is added , those frames are then displayed in such a way that they fit with the refresh rate of the display.

In terms of the load put on the GPU Fast-sync is equal to having no synchronization. I don't even think Fast-sync can work properly with a frame cap , it would result in horrendous stutter which is why probably he said it feels like 40 fps.

Also a 4.5 Ghz 5820K is perfectly adequate even for high refresh rates , not even a 5.2 Ghz 8700K can guarantee you an absolutely locked 144 fps in any game , everyone should stop talking nonsense. Not to mention that unless you fiddle with the settings in most demanding games you wont even get close to 144 fps because of lack of GPU power even with a 1080ti.

This thread is a prime example of the Dunning-Kruger effect.

"Oddly matched" You mean, sensibly matched to achieve framerate required to actually utilize 144Hz screen? There is nothing "odd" about it. The monitor, GPU and resolution combo is literally in place to ensure high framerate you need for such monitor.

EDIT:
And I've also expected bunch of dull responses as it's an usual standard on TPU in recent months... I often wonder why I even ask people because all I get is bunch of salty smartass responses and in the end it's up to me to figure out whatever problem it is anyway.
In single core heavy games, you'll often see hedt get the crap beaten out of them by faster mainstream CPUs, this is no secret and it's been known for years.Look at 6800K (5820k performance) vs mainstream i7s like 6700k or 5775c

Oh look, somebody with an iq higher than 1. Complete idiots think their 5820k has strong single core performance which is required for 144fps in as many titles as possible, he was better off with a 4790k even.

Well, sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't. Depends on the game. If the guy would do what he should've done in the first place, which is present the GPU uage and power log, we could at least say that it isn't the CPU. Cause if the gets 95% usage at ultra settings and then it drops when he lowers the IQ it seems to me that'd be the result of the card not being utilized due to cpu bottleneck. CPU bottleneck,if it's severe, also causes persistent stutter, and that's why he says the game feels so crappy when he lowers the details.

I don't even think Fast-sync can work properly with a frame cap , it would result in horrendous stutter which is why probably he said it feels like 40 fps.
You may have found the cause. Could be both cpu bottleneck and fast sync stutter, that's why the clocks are low and the game feels sluggish.

Actually at 144fps your more cpu limited than gpu, unless your doing 1440p 144 or higher. Remember the lower the resolution the higher cpu utilisation, OP please do what Cucker Tarlson said it's the most logical move and will solve your problem. IF you say your cpu is no bottleneck please disprove us. It's probably struggling to reach 144fps, take a look at the 7700k where most people overclock it to even reach 144 in some cases. Take a look at 1080p 240hz - It's cpu limited and the gpu hardly get's used.

If it's a thread that he created cause he really wanted help, which I am now very doubtful about, we have to eliminate the possible causes on by one. I'd analyze the gpu utilization/power chart to see what the card does in those terms when the visual fidelity is lowered, as well as what Vya said.

Now everyone's an expert on this matter... Dudes, GTX 980, just ONE series back didn't behave this way and I'm somehow just suppose to just know it. I bet 99% of people here didn't even know there is a power control for it but sure enough everyone's an expert right now. As usual...
Just give it up already. You've turned this thread into a complete farce and it should probably be closed by now.

You clearly haven't understood anything that's being explained to you. Looks like my suspicion waaay back in post 8 was justified: :ohwell:

You also need to try what I suggested with the power management. Otherwise yer just bitchin' and wasting all our time.

The fact that the OP hasn't been banned or warned over this thread is unreal, He says we are contradicting ourselves and seems to be a complete troll. He's just turning this into a argument, everyone from this point onwards shouldn't post here anymore he has failed to comply and actually accept the advice given, if you don't like our advice and tips and help you can get lost. Consider yourself reported now.

I guess you'd also ban everyone who ask a question and later never respond again, because that offends you somehow... You know, even if I don't nod to every of your ideas and click your posts LIKE 10 billion times, that doesn't mean even the dumbest ideas don't help me figure stuff out or give me a general idea what I'm dealing with. Which, some here apparently expect with utmost fury.

While everyone was vomiting diarrhea over here, I was debugging the thing with all the bits and pieces picked up from the vomit pool. But I guess everyone was too busy being offended by something so whatever.

This thread though, And @RejZoR It doesn't matter if someone never bothers to respond again - point is there will be advice posted and at least they aren't turning their thread into a ****post where they argue against advice ; they don't respond, Some people have lives to get on with and your wasting time when you could be diagnosing your problem and you aren't truly responding ; Your busy making irrelevant arguments and you deserve that report on you.
Now how about stop arguing like an uneducated child and actually post your attempts to fix the problem? That's more logically and beneficial to the community, nobody wants to see your crap here.
Mods can have mercy on you ; I won't.

I like what posts I please ; If you've got a problem with it then contact a moderator. Doubt he'll do anything, I like the posts because I approve of the content within it, Everyone here is aware you are wasting time, why did you post this if your going to waste time arguing? Please grow up, the internet has no room for 10 year olds with the IQ of a goldfish.

@Xx Tek Tip xX and @RejZoR: I wouldn't yell too loudly. I honestly think that you're both acting inappropriately as this is neither a pissing contest nor a place to criticize people's choice in hardware. I'm actually astonished that a mod hasn't stepped in yet...

Please grow up, the internet has no room for 10 year olds with the IQ of a goldfish.

Complete idiots think their 5820k has strong single core performance

The problem isn't nvidia but your own stupidity.

Honestly you are derailing this thread with insults more than anyone else here , if the mods are to ban someone it should be you. I suggest you stop , you had your say if you feel like it didn't have the effect you desired then leave it be.

I have read the whole thread, apart from the pissing contests going on, there is some sound advice in here, therefore to prevent any further antagonism........ thread is closed.
